i have to hand it to you i love geese but my ma would explode if i got anything bigger then a duck

Can always get geese when you get your own place. Something to look forward too.

What you said reminded me of some people, after I brought home the ducks, a lady was telling her kids "oh look at the little pretty black goose!" I about fell off my chair laughing. There are no black geese, though I wish there was. Anyway, could always tell your mom it's a really big duck... Pekin are actually not much smaller than my geese are.

does anyone know if a seller here on BYC sells meat chicks or hatching eggs? i want to add meat birds to my flock but i really don't want to buy from a hatchery
There's a lady out in Decatur that breeds White American Bresse....the Bresse are known meat birds in France. Might be worth a little research. Although I can tell you from a $ standpoint that you're best off buying a pair or trio and raising your own, if you decide to go with them. Or hatching out eggs. They're on the more obscure end of chickens but supposed to be yummy. I haven't dealt with meat birds personally so I'm not much help in the experience department.
I got the Golden Cuckoo Marans and Cream Legbar from her.
I almost got some of those until I realized they were meat birds and not necessarily great layers.

Well i hope my little injured maran is going to be ok. I made her a scrambled egg. Mixed in some cooked carrot, peas and tomato bits from veggie soup. They haven't had egg since they were itty bitty so she didn'[t know what it was. Had to get her to peck it off my finger and get that eye working. Once she knew it was good she went to chowing it down..in her haste to get dropped bits she ate a little hay, but not much just some small pieces. She wants out but not for a couple of days at least. If I keep giving her good stuff she may not mind as much.

We have really been getting the rain! When I went out this morning to do duck chores there was at least 4" of rain water in the bucket from the last couple of days, and it has rained more today. I made the mistake of not mowing the back yard this weekend, and now it is really getting high. The ducks are eating grass and bugs like crazy, but not fast enough to keep up with the growth after all this rain. I will have to mow as soon as it dries out. I love how green everything is, but I wish some of this would come around in July and August instead of all in May!

FYI, if any of y'all are driving through Timpson on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday turn into the town square and check out Mammie's Closet. One half is a resale store, and the other half has craft booths. I have a booth there with cute aprons, lap quilts and pillows. I don't have a sign on it yet, but mine is right when you walk in and the tags say Lightning T Farm.

Well I think they used the same people who did the Obamacare website!!

i know right!!

I have a bad feeling about my little maran. Went down to check on her and her eye was stuck shut and when I cleaned it nasty, slimy fluid came out....I fear she may have mycoplasma...the same thing that took my little Houdini. Her apetite is good but she is lethagic. No sneezing and nothing clogging her beak yet. That junk is contagious too right?
And once infected will always carry it. She will stay isolated until know for sure. I don't remember if it's treatable or not either, gonna have to go back and read up on it again..
