Texas

Please tell me your in Houston? :fl lol
I hate Texas weather, I don't believe in "future" cold fronts lol. I believe them when I feel them haha. Born & raised in California, & being out here in Houston for about 3 years I've learned to 1) never believe the weather man 2) just because there's lots of thunder & lightening it doesn't mean it's going to rain 3) that Texas' mother nature is going thru menopause with her hot flashes & moodiness. Did I mention I hate Texas weather? Lol. I won't even go into the skeeters topic. When people say "everything is bigger in Texas" I joke around & say "the only things bigger are the skeeters & roaches" :lau

I see you on the duck board :frow nice to see someone else in TX. I'm in the Austin area though.

I have lives in Texas my entire life and I hate the weather to death, and yes, the roaches and the mosquitoes are huge here. e_e I am terrified of roaches... and when I tore down my old coop, guess what was living underneath along with that momma rat that was killing my chicks; tons of roaches! nibbling off my chickens poo. I had to have my husband bag up the bedding. I was too terrified to try and pick it up.

Have only washed dirty butts, not the whole chicken. I have misted them when it's been really hot. Some like it but most don't. They do love walking in shallow water and mud!
I have my araucana hen who has a constant problem with getting poop stuck to her butt, I have ended up just plucking out feathers. I dunno why she has this problem. My fluffier chickens don't.

But I was just wondering if the tea tree oil would be good for them at all. I heard it is great for skin and hair, but i dunno about feathers.

Is there anyone in Lubbock or the surrounding areas who is in need or would like a handsome cockeral or that have any older (3+months old) pullets that they are trying to find a new home for? I have 3 brahma/cochin/mutt cockerals that I need to find homes for. White male, no feathers on feet

looks more cochin than anything but is tinier than the rest.

Big white male with lots of feathers on his feet.

:barnie That's what I'm afraid of that's what'll happen when my daughters duck Quackers gets moved outside. Gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about those big suckers crawling up my arm as I'm cleaning out Quackers' house. Have you found a way to combat these annoying disgusting beasts? :fl

A good smear of petroleum jelly works wonders as well.

Someone here had a whole bunch up for free on Craigslist. His reasons was "wife hates them and need them gone ASAP". He has around 50. Insane.
Man... if my husband told me he didn't like my chickens any more I would tell him tuff tookie! You knew what you got into when you married me haha! I wish I had the room for 50 hens!

I mad my new chicken coop off the ground so the boogers don't have anywhere to really bunker down. There is hay in the bottom of my coop, but the girls dig through it during the day occasionally so i don't think many bugs will stick around. I also use DE in the run, I never had the roaches crawling around in the run, I might try and sprinkle some in the house next time I get a bottle as well!

I thought about that. I had a bottle of it and it disappeared somewhere over the rainbow. The stuff worked when I had my baby chicks a couple of years ago for pasty butt.

:th I can't imagine caring for 50 chickens, let alone 83!?! I have 5 cats, 3 kittens (who need homes), a duck, 2 dogs, a four year old who just started pre-k, & a boyfriend to care for. Right now everyone is inside & that's enough for me, lol. Once I find the kittens a home I would like to get Quackers a friend so he won't be alone outside.
