Hi guys! I joined this forum just b/c I happened upon this thread. Cool that there are sooo many people in Tx. Now....if one of you near me (in Bridge City...near Orange/Beaumont) would happen to have some dual purpose hens you're willing to sell that'd be GREAT! I've been raising my 1st chickens for about 7 mnths now. Been thinking I had only 1 roo out of those original 9...now my bubble was burst today. Turns out that out of my now current 8 adult chickens...I have 4 roos & 4 hens, so I either have to do some culling or some trading or something.
Those were all mixed breed just to see if I *liked* raising birds. (Except for one feather footed roo) I just recently hatched out a doz. Barred rock babies, and have ordered in some Jersey giant, some dominique, and some White Rock eggs.
I also have ducks - a pair of adult pekin, 9 (1) mnth old pekin, 9 (1) mnth old rouen, and 1 snowy call hen & 1 white call drake.
I'm used to showing & owning dogs so this is all pretty new to me & I am excited to learn about the various breeds, etc.

Hi I just was referred here and it is great. I live near Dawson Texas really in Union High and raise meat goats, Road Island Reds, Barred Rocks, guineas and Seramas. We have two house dogs and two pasture dogs. I hatch eggs and cycle with around 150 chicks, pullets and roo's and have a good time doing it. Retired from the submarine service. SMILE Johnny
