Texas

Welcome all newbies! I officially have Hamburgs and Spitz on order from ideal. May not be a top breeder, but heck, it's a start on the 'exotic' breeds I want. May even get some polish.

Tomorrow we pick up the quail! I don't have all of the pens ready yet, but I've got enough pen space to get my starter birds going. Picking up 30 coturnix tomorrow. I can't wait!

I also have a question for those of you with older roosters: Our seven year old rooster, Lyle, is acting arthritic lately. Has anyone else ever noticed signs of Arthritis in older birds? He spends most of his days now on his haunches. Only gets up to move around to check on his hens. His "replacement" Lucky, keeps a watchful eye on the flock for him these days. Just curious.

If anyone can direct me to somewhere to get some cochins that'd be cool.... I ordered silkies and cornish game from Ideal and the cornish are great but I only have 1 silkie left, I'm getting rid of the last of my barred rock roosters tomorrow so I can get some more banties.

Also, welcome all new peoples! And congrats to those who have taken and passed final exams! Took those last week and they're tiring lol!

Would anyone near San Antonio have a orpington rooster? My prized rooster was killed by chicken hawks today

I am sorry for your loss. You might cross post on the Orp thread too - roosters should be easy to come by - even really god ones.

Sorry for your loss. I saw someone selling some south of Houston the other day. I think via Craigslist... Not sure of quality.

We got our quail today. 21 in all. Five hour round trip, but they're here!! I will post pictures shortly. The only ones I have they're still ruffled from their drive home.

I'm in Cypress and expect to move to Pine Valley (between New Waverly & Coldspring) sometime in the next 5 years. I've got 18 acres up there - just need to build a house!

Anyone else having trouble getting rid of roosters lately? I've got two that I've craigslisted, but haven't had any responses. Usually, I get several the first day.
