I have taken care of these little chicks for a week now. There is a lot to be said in favor of a broody hen.

I have researched all that stuff about a year ago and now I can't remember a thing.

Just wanted to ask a quick question. My therapist and I have come to the conclusion that I won't be going back into truck driving. So we are trying to come up with something that will be a little slower for my brain to keep up with and that I still am interested in. Some ideas that we have hit on and are throwing around are teaching a class of some sort and sewing. She thought maybe I could teach a class where I provide the materials and the basic equipment and the people paying for the class walk out knowing how to do basic sewing. Like grocery bags or something like that. She also thought I could teach a basic class on chicken care or chick care (since I have got 2 therapist and have almost got one of the doctors started on chickens).

Does anyone else think those are good ideas? Or does anyone else have ideas that might work? I'm still smart but I can't think fast anymore. Just wondered if maybe some of the back yard chicken people might have some out of the nesting box ideas that I just can't come up with. My brain is so tired of trying to think that I swear my eyes are going cross. Lol!

No I haven't thought about that! But that sounds like something I would love doing! How would I go about even doing that? I guess first I would need to research chicken magazines to find out which one I would like to write for. Or is that backwards? Maybe I should practice writing columns and then send out samples to different magazines to see if someone would hire me. Thanks for the ideas!

I think you could really open up both types if classes and you'd have something.

During the spring, you could teach a class on chick/chicken care, something hands-on so your students have a good idea of what to expect and how to keep up. Spring is when everyone goes out an gets chicks, so it would be ideal because afterwards, tey can just go out and buy everything they need. You could probably also sell them chicks after the class. Two types of profit!

As for the sewing classes, those can be held year round. My mom and I were trying to find a class last year but the local quilting lady only held one a year. We really would have appreciated it if she had held several throughout the year. After all, all year round people are in need for blankets, bags and quilts. You could hold beginners and advanced classes if you want.

That sounds pretty cool. Maybe do seasonal bird classes. Chick classes in the spring, coop classes fall, heat classes in the early summer, winter egg laying in the fall. Incubator classes early spring. That would keep the chick classes going. Then for the sewing stuff I could schedule blankets for fall, easter dresses for early spring, outdoor cushions for early summer, stuff like that. And keep a basics class open year round just based on how many people sign up for it. That should keep me busy but still not so busy I get overwhelmed. I could sell chicks, chickens, basic coop needs (nest boxes and whatnot), and for the sewing classes they walk out with whatever the class was teaching. The projects could be ranked by skill level. That sounds like a lot of fun but could be a little hard to set up. But once it's going word of mouth would keep it going.
