I will try delawares since they were the chicken meat before the cornish x. I will work for getting them to SOP while I use culls to fill out my freezer. Anyone here have delawares?

As I understand it, you can raise quail but you have to procure a lisence to do so because they're considered game birds, not livestock

Quail of any breed fall under a game bird breeder permit. Its less than $30/annually for less than 1000 birds. $186 for more than 1000 birds. Quail of any breed fall under this license. You can get it from the Texas parks and wildlife website. Or google Texas game bird breeder permit. As long as you have that, you can have quail. If you don't have that, and you get audited, you stand losing all of your birds and a hefty fine.
