Pups are adorable!!! Any suggestions on riding my run of squirrels? Blasted things are killing me in feed. I have set a trap and they are ignoring it.

Traps at Tractor supply (I have had no takers, I guess I will need to use sunflower seed as opposed to corn), depending how far your neighbors are a .22 rifle. The distance is too close and you are out in the country, some upland game 12 gauge is also effective.

I grew up in a household where our mother didn't let us play shoot 'em up/cops and robbers games with pretend guns when we were little (not even sticks that looked like them) - she felt that it was not ok for a small child to get used to pointing a gun at another child/person, even a pretend one. But a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun to take out squirrels at the bird feeder, well, that was an entirely different story. That was JUST FINE. Me and my brothers would set ourselves up like snipers at the kitchen window and we got VERY good at it - BBs are certainly a good deterrent and with good aim, even the BBs can kill a squirrels (though that wasn't our primary goal and it didn't happen often). The BBs would lodge in the pine tree bark by the feeder, so I guess we didn't have the issue of lots of BBs in the yard (we dug them out and reused them). Do chickens eat BBs?

I haven't had an air rifle/BB gun since I was about 12, but I'm actually off to Academy today to get a Daisy 880, some BBs and some pellets (and some targets - I need practice!). Just in case (about to move my babies outside for good, and we have LOTS of predators of the small and evil variety). No way could I discharge a real rifle in my neighborhood...

I have "barked" squirrels that used to raid my peach tree. They would leap to another tree, and the I let the 12 gauge pellets do the work. Some people like to eat tree rats, I am not one of them. I live and let live until they start affecting my produce or livestock.

With the clear skies out, be wary of hawks. I just put up the chickens, because two were circling, lower and lower. They seemed to lose interest when the chickens were put up.

I had a pair swoop at my head in the pool yesterday. Any bird that flys over my yard gets the same greeting from my 3 yr old granddaughter, ( She may have learned this from her crazy grandma) She runs out into the yard waving her arms like a gorilla gone bat crazy while screaming "NO HAWKS NO HAWKS!" So when they swooped us in the pool we were both stupid quiet. The ladies on the other hand felt them coming I think because they were all in safety coops around my yard. Good Girls!

I have 1 acre with 4 old dog houses and their full coop and run just so they have a place to hide. because I let them roam all day.

I have chased of the hawk several times today. Good things is that it is also keeping the squirrels away.
When I went to discuss with my hubby he was cleaning up my BB gun so my war on the squirrels may continue!!!
Off I go to hunt!!!

Pop 'em and eat'em. They are good eating if cooked right. They are legal to hunt year-round and, if you are on your property, no license required. As long as they know the feed is there, they will come. I believe they have a network, throughout Texas, and can zero in on an easy target. If they find that they are losing friends and family to humans, they back off.

A good dog will chase them off also.

I just got a mental image of a squirrel in a control room wearing a tiny little headset, looking at a huge monitor showing a map of Texas. And hearing in a squeaky, high-pitched voice: "Houston, we have a problem. Multiple incidents in Cut-N-Shoot. Recommend immediate evacuation per standard protocol..."
That'll give me the giggles all week.
