I just got my first Cochins they are neat chicks I wanted a friendly flock not too worried about eggs as we are down from a house of 7 to just 3 now kids are growing and moving out they still come get eggs but not as often as they should for me to worry about producers. now i want birds to play with and cuddle. so I am trying Silkies and Cochin both LF and Bantam.

This is Georgie she is 6 weeks old tomorrow she is a self blue Cochin pullet. She is Georgie cuz she was so curious from day 1

My cat eats them and then throws up everything an hour later. Anyone else having another rat explosion? We get them under control and then it rains and bam they come back out in force! My dogs are doing the best they can but cannot keep up. I don't dare let my cat outside since I live on a busy street.

It's gotten a little better here since we have had more sun the last few weeks than rain. But from January to the end of May, it was like a rodent invasion. Even our barn kitties couldn't keep up. Darn rodents ate the tails off of nearly all of our roosters this winter and spring. We look like we have buttless chickens now with the roosters missing their pretty tail feathers. We've never had the rodent population this bad before. Didn't help that one of the big snakes we had living here decided last summer to get into a nest box - he ate a fake egg I had in there and killed himself. If he had just stuck to catching rodents, he'd still be alive and we wouldn't have had the nasty rodents get so out of control while it was so wet.

No matter what you do make sure to Quarantine any new birds dont just give her a new friend hoping it is not sick or mean.

With all the good comes bad. I lost my entire pheasant flock, and most of my bob whites today to my own dogs. Well, my husbands dogs. The new flight pen had a quail sized hole, and, apparently they found it for me. I've been picking bodies up for over an hour. Still can't find how they got out. Sickening.

Can't help it. The dogs did as they were trained to do and killed.
