Texas

So it looks like I have two guineas laying. Found another egg this evening. In the pullet coop, about the same size and color as the first one from yesterday.

Congrats! What is it like to own guineas? I have always wanted to know.

Take a bag of rocks. Hang it from a tree. Yell at it for an hour. Repeat.

Walk from the front door to the back door and get lost. Scream for an hour. Repeat.

Randomly knock on your neighbors door and yell at them for an hour. Repeat.

A few examples of life with guineas.

I thought about them. But after a lot of research, it does seem they are difficult and loud as you suggest. Right now I have battling rooster wars. Lucky in his pen in a crowing contest with his Plymouth Barred Rock son in another. He looks all PBR like his mother, except that little hint of green in his tail from his father. Lucky puts out his loud clear crow, and the son sounds like a teenager getting his voice not to crack. But, their rivalry won't last long. PBR roosters are notoriously mean, so his son will be dinner this fall. Now, his other son is a very pretty EE. A black and white speckled neck, a green black body that sheens green and looks like scales, with gold spots throughout the wings. I don't think I have seen a uniquely pretty rooster outside of his father, of course. He has another son, in development, I am not sure what he will look like. Then he has two girls. One all black, even the beak, and one that is grey and white and reminds me of a mottled seagull.
