Texas

Has anyone any experience building coops out of pallets? I've got a plan (and a pile) to build a coop/shed at my property this winter. I'm thinking 8 pallets across the front/back and 5 down the sides. We tore down the old horse fence, so I've got lots of 2x10x16 boards that I'm going to use for the walls. I'm hoping to have the final building look like an old timey General Store, complete with deck in front. I don't know how long it's going to take me to actually build, since I'm doing it all by myself, but I've got all winter. :)

Here's the layout of the land. The red marking is where the house is going to go, hopefully in about 4 1/2 years. The yellow is the coop location.

I have trained chickens on the brite tap. It was a matter of grapping them, and shoving their beak up to the nipple, until one of them got it. Once one chicken gets it, they all join in. It may take 45 minutes of patience, but it should happen.

Lawdy! I couldn't make it through all 3,702 pages of this thread, but I just wanted to pop in and say hey because I am from Texas! East Texas, Longview/Hallsville area in the piney woods! Anyone else in this area?!
Hey there, welcome. I grew up in Texarkana TEXAS but moved to the DFW area eons ago. Love me some East Texas piney woods.

Is it me, or is there a problem with the website. I can't go to areas I have posted before, like this thread. I have to search for them. Also, the adds aren't popping.

Sadness looms over us today. My husband and I had to cull two of our young roosters. We are not sure if it was brain damage due to a possible fight with the other two larger roosters, or marek's, or something else, but out little silkie roo and our turken roo were put out of their misery today. They had a very hard time walking around, very shaky. No stiff legs sticking out to the side, but not able to stand firmly on their feet without loosing balance. They still got around the coop and ate and drank to the best of their ability, but they were loosing weight and I couldn't watch them suffer any more.

So sorry to hear. I have had to do that to a couple of injured chickens and one duck. Even though it is done as a kindness it is not any easier.
