Texas

We have four coops. We are soon going to build a 5th. Thunderstorm blowing through here. It should not be enough to undo all the hard work. The 5th one is in anticipation of being on the waiting list for a flock of Coronation Sussex. Hopefully, this year. We ordered 30. But, it not this year, we should be on the short list for next.

Howdy all you chicken people in Texas, just reporting in from Livingston, Texas with my brand new flock of chicks and ducklings and their "momma" (me) a brand new chicken owner. Lots to learn here but having fun so far.
Any good advice or information gladly accepted.

Welcome! Feel free to ask any questions you may have. There are lots of knowledgeable people here willing to help. My advice, build your housing twice the size you think you need because... chicken math. lol Have fun!

Hello we are in Livingston as well. One thing I would suggest is keeping your ducks and chickens separated. They both have different needs and can give each other diseases when housed together.

I am just learning that. I guess I will have to build a new run for the chickens asap. At least I have the room if I can find an area that isn't flooded.

Hi all! A new Texan here from Brenham! My husband and I just recently moved to 22 acres from Houston, TX. We love it! About a month ago, I got my first two chickens. I have no experience with chickens, but am quickly learning and loving it! I'm sure I will have many questions.

Well on the bright side ducks love water. Though with little ducklings you will need to be careful they can actually drown in tubs if you are not careful. Now grown ducks can't get enough fun in the water. I like ducks especially Cayuga. However, having 45 chickens I am wary of putting ducks out there as the chickens free range everywhere the ducks would.

free range chickens with free range ducks...it that a problem? Our chicken coop is at the front of our place and the duck pen is behind our house. Our chickens make it to the back but the ducks rarely venture towards the chickens.
