What a storm!!! 80 plus mph straight line winds but fortunately no tornado. Blew the new goose house over on its side with two geese inside it. It landed on the door so we can't get them out till tomorrow but I could see inside and they are doing o.k. Think we will leave it on its side, put in a new door and that will be that. Lots of down limbs, plums and peaches all over the place. Blue a piece of sheet metal off the goose pen roof all the way out to the highway. Blew our big cross (10 feet tall) that was out by the highway down so we will need to fix that and reinforce it before putting it back up. Blew the grill over and we had grilled earlier so there were hot coals still but there was enough rain that no fires. The county road is flooded down by the highway.

We finally have power back for at least a while so hope this is it for the night.

Sorry to hear this, but boy am I glad Im not getting that nasty crap right now.

Nothing but snakes come into our coop and pen areas.   We have a Great Pyrenees and an Akbash in training.  Someone asked the other day where are my dogs with all of these snakes.  For some reason, chicken snakes are not on their radar.  The snake yesterday actually rattled it's tail at me and our Pyr was right there and didn't even notice. Our chickens like to go to the wooded area between our house and my brother in law's when we let them out to free range.  They can fit through the squares in our property line fence.  That's were the Bobcat struck:(

Congratulations!

Thank goodness y'all are safe.  Poor geese, they probably have head aches.  The storms today were all east of us.  We're supposed to get some that's developing West of us much later in the night.

Did you kill the Snake?!?!

Yes. I know they have a purpose but they are not needed here and I feel relocating them could just cause another person trouble when they end up in their coop.

I am putting Sulfur and Cayenne, Snake away down when the weather clears.

You said it tail rattled right? If it was a Venomous Rattlesnake, I would have killed it too.

Chicken snakes will do that to try to scare off their predators.  It's a different kind of rattle.  We also have rattlesnakes and their rattle can not be mistaken.

I didn't know that there were different types of snakes that had rattles. I always thought there were only Rattlesnakes.

You are correct. I should have said, 'different kind of rattle sound.' 'rattlesnakes and their rattle sound cannot be mistaken.' Chicken snakes don't have rattles. They just shake their tail making a rattling sound.

Cottonmouths also shake and rattle their tail when threatened.

I hate snakes. I shoot them on sight,
Ditto!!!!! I understand about rodent control but I can put out traps. Snakes just get put out of their misery here and everyone is the better for it. My birds and eggs and dogs go unharmed and the "poor" snake gets to take the next step on whatever reincarnation path they are on.
