Texas

Well, it's supposed to be dry today (we'll see). I'm going to work on the coop bedding in all the coops. I saw a suspicious poop this morning - I'm going to treat for cocci. I'd be surprised some don't have it at this point.

So my sister in law brought me a surprise this morning. Her duck hatched this little chicken and then pushed it out of the nest and wouldnt let it back in. So my sister in law saved it and brought it to me. It is maybe a day old, but no older.

My husband and I headed home from the Beltway 8 and Gessner area around 4 PM. The sun was shining and the closer we got to home the darker it got. 59 was open at that time. If we don't get anymore rain tonight, I am thinking all should be okay.

Grass/weeds are getting taller and taller and taller.......

Ren, if you are just going to shoot this thing on your property the long barrel shouldn't be a concern. I learned with a 9 shot H&R pistol. Talk about a long barrel. I LOVE that gun. Because of the long barrel you can make your shot count. For in town, I carry a .38 special.

Good luck on choosing your gun and hunting!
O sooo many options

I agree with Bluejean55girl on her choice for the same reasons. A revolver feels safer to carry loaded to me, is easy to operate, and for me is easier to be accurate with. Practice with your husbands .22. It will be cheapest and easiest to handle. Once you are familiar with it get something similar(single action, double action, semi-auto) in a larger caliber and a good holster. There are too many options to say what is best for you. A 50 foot shot with a handgun will take practice to be lethal and you really don't want to just wound the animal. Be safe and act responsibly when handling it. ALL guns are loaded(even if you watched someone else check it a minute before), never point it at something you don't want to kill or destroy(this includes anything behind your target), keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on target and ready to fire the weapon. Good luck with that 'yote.
I did get some practice today with the .22 pistol and with my brother in law's 9 mm semiautomatic Beretta.

the difference, WOW! With the .22 I hit a rock that skipped and hit my can, lol. I hit the can with the 9 mm continuously firing. I think I'm going with a .22 semi automatic.

You can't go wrong with a revolver. It is designed to go bang 6 times, it just takes longer to reload. If you go with a semi-auto, a reliable .40 will probably fit bill as an intermediate round that can be handled well. I recommend a Glock, because you can abuse the heck out of them and they still shoot.
O my, more to think of. Is a .40 more like a 9mm or .22?

IT'S RAINING AGAIN!!!
Ooooo no, sorry to hear. We had sunshine and a nice breeze. My husband got to finally mow.

Wish you had what we have had today. Beautiful, sunny, 80 degrees and breezy. That is after more than a month of constant thunder storms and more than 11 inches above normal for us. At least things are drying out finally.

Hope you get nice weather soon.

So so so sorry for folks still dealing with rain. We actually DIDN't have rain today - hard to believe!!!! Spent all day (and about 7 big bales of compressed pine shavings) trying to get dry bedding into all the coops and otherwise clean up for the chickens (heaven knows when I'll get the chance to clean for me - mud everywhere).
