Four of my new baby girls!
We are in love!

the lil' posers! PRECIOUS!

I thought I was expecting some chicks in the mail today, so I called my post office first thing this morning....they informed me they were already loaded on a truck for delivery!!!
Turns out they were not mine, mine will be here tomorrow.

Anyone ever actually has a post man deliver your babies?

It's already 1000 degrees here in Houston and I do NOT want my new babies riding around all day in the back of a mail truck.
I went to my post office and spoke the dumb arse people that work there and kindly asked them to call me when they arrive and I would be there in 5 minutes to pick them up.........HA HA...They said if they remember they will call....otherwise they will be loaded on the truck.

I am so mad at these idiots and I don't even know where or to whom to complain.

I never really have had to deal with my post office lil now and I read a million horrible reviews on google about them today. I am not looking forward to my morning visit to argue with some dummies about where my chicks are. Please say a prayer that I do not go postal on them!
lol jk I would never, but I will ...nevermind.
I ship and receive live chicken all the times. At shipping time, the rules of thumb are:

1. Write the phone numbers of the receiver and the sender on the appropriate slots on the labels. This way they can call both should there is problem with delivery.
2. I ask my client in advance if they want the Post Office to call them for pick-up. Only half of my clients want to do so, the other half want normal house delivery. Keep in mind, the PO won't call unless they were instructed to do so (who wants to call someone and wake them up at 5:30am!). For the client that wants the PO to call, I write "POST OFFICE: PLEASE CALL FOR PICK-UP", and even high light the receiver phone number.
3. I always give all my client the tracking number so they can track; whether they want the PO to call or not
4. I instruct my client that want to pick up ... to call the local PO, give them the tracking number and ask them again to call when the birds arrive.
5. In fact, there was a different shipping label for just to deliver to a Post Office, the shipping charge is slightly lower. I'm not sure if this process still in effect or not.

And for my own rule, I don't ship or receive when the weather getting too hot. I figure out that the perfect /safe month for shipping is Mar-Apr and Oct-Nov. The Post Office rule is .. no shipping when it's more than 85F or lower than 40F (you can research online to get more accurate/update temperature requirement)

Hope that helps

Thanks I did get them yesterday. The shipper had the box clearly labeled to call on arrival, but they still didn't call.
I just like by a poopy PO.

Didn't bait the trap -- but this morning a raccoon managed to get itself caught.

Thought briefly about doing something with it -- taxidermy? -- and put off the killing - because if I wanted it 'stuffed' - then it would make a difference how nice the corpse was - right? -- Finally I decided to just kill it and throw it out to the buzzards - By the time I went out with my gun -- it has died of heat stroke. I'm sorry for it -- (it would be a completely un-marred specimine then wouldn't it -- no bullet hole in the head with the blood accompanying it. )--

sorry for the corpse pictures -- but there is a point here.... I have a weather station and the heat index is as high as 115. I put a shade over the top of the trap -- but since he was destined for shooting anyway I didn't water him. (kind of how would you do that without getting bitten anyway) --- The thermometer temp is 95.

So -- animals outside really can quickly die of heat stroke. Which is worse... firing squad or heat? dunno - and I do feel bad. So I'm ultra concerened by my chickens that are just a few feet away -- in these temperatures. Summer's here.

Raccoon got my favorite two Faverolle hens this morning - wish it would have had a heat stroke. Trap will be set tonight!

Aww. I don't know what is worse. I have a trap set now too because the darn racoon has ripped the wire and taken 5 chicks out of my brooder. My favorites included :( he will add some lead to his diet if I get him trapped

Good luck to you also.

Sheesh. Forget the heat lamp for these chicks. I just put a fan in the coop so there would be some air flow!! It's a sauna out there.
FOR REAL, gees! I have a ceiling fan in our night pen. Now it's our DAY pen as well, lol.

Thanks! If I can keep the barn cats out of the trap it will help. And on that heat ugh my house AC hasn't worked right in like 8 days. I feel really bad for my birds outside.
