We've got snapping turtles in the water and snakes on land

Ditto here in West Central Texas. Snakes this year are really bad. We have had rattlesnakes from 2 - 7 feet, Bull/Rat snakes from 4 - 6 feet and some of the largest common garden snakes I have ever seen. They have all gone to meet their maker. And, even though we do not have a tank/pond we have a plentiful supply of frogs and toads as well as the occassional turtle passing through. And it has been hot as the dickens too boot.

Had a 3-4 foot rat snake under a table under our equipment carport. I think he was after the duck egg that was under the table. I chased him with a hoe but he ended up going up into the engine of a piece of equipment under the carport. Oh well...I let him be. He DOES do some good. I have seen mice in the last couple of days. Maybe he'll go eat them and NOT the eggs. I have seen more snakes this year, and big ones too, than I have ever seen before out here. We've been here over 10 years! We are half way between Houston and Austin.

Everyone, stay safe!

Yes, they do some good but I just can't chance it. I have 3 week old Muscovies running around and 13 new hatchlings in the brooder box. If I see a snake, I don't stop until it's a gone snake.

Me too. No babies pecking about to worry about but, after a couple of incidents with my dogs and them eating the duck eggs, ALL SNAKES MUST DIE!!!

ok, fellow Texans.

I'm looking for some Black Ameraucaunas. Specifically a couple of roosters. Anyone got any leads on true AM's? I'd hate to have to travel all the way north of Dallas for a couple of birds, but may have to.

I'm located about half way between Corpus and Houston. work in Houston daily during the week.

Hi all, I'm here in Houston! Just adopted 5 of different ages... 2 buff orps and 3 reds (don't know the breed). Definitly in a learning as I go kind of situation. The 2 buffs should be laying any day. 1 of the reds is older and the other 2 are her chick's, I don't really know what age.

@BertS, we just bought Ameraucana from max strawn....he wins shows with them, including the state fair this year.
A super nice guy, he lives in Princeton, Texas. I can send you his email address if you're still looking.
(He might ship, I think he ships chicks and eggs, his are really great birds, we got blue wheaten and blue Ameraucana)
