Based off of where I live I won't leave my gates open for more time than it takes to get the car off the property. I do not want to lose my cat or hen's to the neighbors or dumped dogs. South Texas along the Mexican border is like a whole other country compared to Texas. I have lived in DFW, Wise County, Austin and San Antonio and have never experienced husbandry practices like I see here on a daily basis.I've lost quite a bit as well.... Our lovely neighbors decided it's okay to have there dog run 1/2 block down the hwy and it killed 3 of our chicks. One red sex link hen and two giants. Which one was a male and I was planning on breeding gaints too. :-( but I still have my 2 sex links and white rocks and only one giant. My first batch was buff, Ausltrop, EE, and my red. Then got a mixture again and they was the ones I just said earlier.now I'm hopping to get a roo buff and roo white Rock with my 26 chicks in February.
It will take up to 5h hours for me to get there.Yeah takes about 2 hours to get to Houston
I did discuss this with my wife, she says " we have enough chicken already" so am unable to assist. Especially since I am talking about the need to cull out a problem roo already and we are vegetarians(I cheat and eat breakfast tacos!). She is still highly resistant to my desire to cull out our problem child next trash day as he only attacks me.Our flock is doing well, they seem to adjust to the ups and downs of that thermometer. Added 10 "future layers" in mid November. At 8 weeks old, two Easter Eggers are welcoming the day with cockadoodle. They are beautiful, but need a new home! Anyone need them? Located in Salado TX north of Austin.
Hi, everyone. I live in Maryland but we'll be moving down to Corpus area later this year (assuming our house sells), so I thought I'd join in on this thread. I am down to 40+ birds and plan to further reduce to ~15 by moving time.
