So I do have a question. I need to relocate so many prickly pears on the property. I keep failing with glove purchases. Does anyone have a suggestion? Those spines embed in your fingers and stay there for months. @007Sean ?

I found that it was my other EE that was the one having laying issues. I found that she has a prolapsed vent. I soaked her in warm water yesterday and was able to clean everything off the vent but lack the knowledge of trying to reinsert it. Ive read tons of great information on here...but lack the confidence in myself. Shes still eating, free ranging, taking snacks...etc

I would have all the confidence in yourself after reading these articles. Because if it isn't going to be you good luck with finding anyone else to help. Avain vets are hard to find. The stark choice is help or euthanise/harvest.

Morning fellow coasties and the rest of Texas!

Finally we had enough rain down here to grow fresh green grass again. I hope the chicken appreciate the dietary change and more forage to boot. The mosquitoes are pleased with the break in our drought this morning as I opened up the chicken pens. I think my wallet will be grateful as the feed bills were getting steep. Unfortunately for me, we can grow grass again so I'm going to get a long deserved lawn equipment workout very soon.

Love to hate it, but yep my grass is now 3 foot tall in places. Oh well I get entirely too much downtime.

Back to the gloves they cost a princely sum, but good equipment never comes cheap. I settled on these as the ANSI specs were quite high HEXARMOR® 9014 CUT RESISTANT GLOVES , additionally someone on the home garden thread recommended something similar that their game warden uses(is provided) to clear brush. Those silly rose tending gloves from HD were a waste of money for my application, but will be fine for citrus.

But since reading the information on them and that they are tested with steel needles all the way down to 25 Guage I'll probably be OK. Unless I meet a 27 Guage prickly pear. To be honest I'm sure my prickly pear go to guages even smaller than that, after all this is Texas. We do it all bigger, better, thornier and more poisonous than most places.

If anyone lives near/ around DFW metroplex, and is looking to purchase day-old chick, please also consider Aggie Feed & Chick. This store does Not have great review and it’s sad. However, the store has so many chicks that aren’t selling as much as they had hoped so when my spouse came earlier today to pick up a few things, they are giving him free chick. They told him they are giving away 5 for the price of one. I’m posting this because I’m certain they will cull all of the chicks if there are too many and not enough demand. Just about 2 weeks ago, I visited the Buy/Sell/Trade forum here, and there were quite a few people looking to buy chicks from TSC but they said as soon as the first shipment came, chicks got sold out as quickly as within the first hour. Demand was high, but not enough supply.

I am concern for those chicks at Aggie, and want to alert in hope a few could “rescue” them before they will be dispose.

Sounds like the proper forum to post to. Pleasant Grove area isn't too unpleasant to get to if you have the desire for the product.

We sure did need it to get green up. We had to give the cows supplements before. I also do love the prickly pear I need to get me some good gloves.
