Laureles, TX 5 miles north of Los Fresnos. I just knocked off lawn mowing time. I am working on reclaiming my yard with just a 21 inch push mower grasses are about 3-6ft high in spots. I am done until evening on that project though. It should be more pleasant around 6pm when the humidity has dropped. Weather channel put my arrow in the wrong spot. What area are you in? Where did you get the eggs, are they anything special?I pulled the one developing egg from the broody last week and have her in a quail coop getting big. Standing like a cockerel already. Hmm.
The 13 remaining eggs set under the same broody aren't having any better luck. It appears 3 chicks pipped and got stomped, 1 hatched and is a cute little bugger, 2 more were pipped and I'm hopeful and waiting on the rest. The dead chicks a bummer.
Glad you are having better luck! We shall see what after work holds.
2 buddies who have roosters with their laying hens. Barnyard surprises again. Nothing special at all and were free for the asking. I owe one buddy a cockerel.Where did you get the eggs, are they anything special?

EDIT- @electrycmonk @RUNuts I woke up to 7 still living blue Sumatra chicks so hoping the coop changes and night light did the trick.
Omg that's terrible! Poor thing I hope she can survive the injuriesGotta love finding a broody when you mow the lawnShe pretty much lost a wing and all feathers to it and has an easy to fix blue coat patch on the rump. Have the bleeding controlled now, severe lacerations at the top wing joint at the body, chest cavity looks intact. Bleeding Heart wouldn't let me euthanize and wants to see how she does over night. I did my best nursey thing with liberal application of blue coat and some non stick guaze directly over that severe wound after flushing wounds and foreign debris. I probably should have amputated it since that shoulder joint is sliced half through, and might still do that in the morning as she has a break at the last wing joint too. Both wings are immobilized at present and she is in isolation. This is the kind of stuff that can only happen to a Silkie. My other fowl wouldn't wait for the mower nor would they fit under one.
