If it's 36 degrees at ground level where your standing, the higher in the atmosphere, the colder the air. So airplane flying altitude it "might" be 26 degrees so any moisture would be snow. Big enough snowflakes won't melt before hitting ground so we get to "see" snow. Woo hoo!
Not an exact explanation, but might get you an idea. Sleet is rain that freezes while falling thru the air.
Thanks. The snow is falling and everything is white. Beautiful. The chickens are enjoying the snow- well, the younger ones are, the older ones are in the covered run.
