Texas

Yeah, it's cold all over. But the windchill over the top of this forecast...which like yours just keeps getting lower, is down right dangerous. No offence to texans, but I do not trust most of the people who have only seen snow as dust to drive on ice 🥶
Keep in mind-Texas usually doesn't deal with frozen.
In my area, if it freezes, the only answer hwy dept. has is sand on bridges and overpasses. No salt, plows, any other icy road care. And drivers that don't

Oh I know. When it snowed a few weeks ago the response was just "oh shoot what do you we do" lmao. Husband said there was at least 6 cars slid off the road on the way to work. So I'll probably just stay home and research chickens I think 🤣

Here’s our newest rescues at the sanctuary:D welcome them all

35 and sleet, so far its melting.
I'm concerned. Many thoughts In my head. My house (not where I live) was built 1918, bought 1982, from original owner, we knew issues and had done winterizing. It I s pier and beam has underpinning. This last summer, there were issues with sewer. I had all exterior water and sewer lines replaced.
I haven't checked/wrapped exterior faucets....
My renter says its all good....he has it covered.
Also, I am halfway thru replacing all the wooden windows with double insulated aluminum windows. 14 windows 8 replaced. Sighs.....
Too old for this

I think the only word to describe walking outside here atm is stupid cold. The dogs pretty upset that this is what hes gotta deal with. Out forecast says almost definitely snow on Sunday tho. So I guess that's a bright side? I'm expecting the city to shutdown really
Haha yeah I’m sitting outside rn with my goat in his shed becuase how stupid cold it is his heat lamps are on and everything!!

And, currently... Frozen fog just "hangin' out across the road." Some crystalline structure inside waterer's and my fingers are starting to UN-numb from the fresh water filling in 27/28° fun...

Me too. Had to crack the ice and refill the waterer and add some oystershell and grit to the dispenser. Will go out later and check the water. I do have and electric water bowl, and hate to put it out, but with this weeks weather forecast, I might have to this afternoon.

So, I'm thinking unorthodox here......
Given:
1) the forecasted bitterness
2) momma silkie in the nesting box "in the coop
3) wind chills

I'm thinking of putting the plastic plate brooder (adjustable height) thingy in the belly of the nest box. Put fresh pine shavings over it and let her sit on the eggs with it 1-2" below the shavings....

Thoughts? Suggestions?
Y'all wanna see the picture of the item in question? It's a "K&H Pet products" 25watt unit.
