Texas

Ohhhhh yeah it totally does. She's in a plastic Christmas tree box atm because her usual home is packed. But we usually have dirt in her home so it can absorb the heat of the lights into the night. She's in the room with my boa and like 40 geckos atm tho. Usually she's in the living room or garage. So the whole room is kept 74 degrees in the winter so she's far from suffering in there. 🤣 But the rice is a neat idea. We used to use tile and sand/soil mix for our bearded dragon because it retainedheat better and lowered heating lamp costs. Also because he liked a semi warm belly. But he has long since passed due to me trustinf the wrong people to look after him :/
Well that background makes me feel A-LOT better... ^ that refreshing, if sad background makes me think you can totally see my logic of the ricesock now as your use of sand and tile for the others is (in my skewed view of life) almost identical if not at least very parallel...

Well, I'm warm now. Fingers are ready to go remove lug nuts.

TTYL

When I was a kid, we had round smooth river rock near edge of fire in fireplace. At bedtime we each got "our" rock, I always put mine in a pillowcase, and it went to the foot of the bed, under covers, to help warm me and bed.
When microwave came along, rice socks took the place of river rocks. I use one almost everyday, for warmth, sore muscles. I have even made little rice socks out of kid socks, warmed and put in coat pockets when headed to barn

So, I'm thinking unorthodox here......
Given:
1) the forecasted bitterness
2) momma silkie in the nesting box "in the coop
3) wind chills

I'm thinking of putting the plastic plate brooder (adjustable height) thingy in the belly of the nest box. Put fresh pine shavings over it and let her sit on the eggs with it 1-2" below the shavings....

Thoughts? Suggestions?
Y'all wanna see the picture of the item in question? It's a "K&H Pet products" 25watt unit.
Good idea. If it was me, I would worry about shaving catching fire. That's just me. Before using it unsupervised in coop, try putting a feather duster under it, then cover it with shaving hay towel etc.... and see how hot it gets.

Morning folks! 30°F here, feels like 18°F, freezing drizzle. I hate this weather!
Drained all the water pipes to my pens, yesterday, so now I'll just have to water individual pens, one at a time, with numerous trips to the house and back to the pens. :barniethere goes half a day! <sighs>

Think I'll move to Belize! :D

Now This, I can do with pleasure. On tile floor no less!

Sounds like a great idea. Think I will steal that.

This winter storm warning is no "T-ball pitch" for the North Texas region.....

Take note of the Precipitation & Impact paragraphs in pics....

I'm halfway thru the trucks brake job/warranty replacement fiasco in the driveway now....
