Texas

Hi everyone, I hope I'm putting this in the right spot after reading some similar rehoming threads. I have a 7 week old buff orpington that has been positively identified by the breeder to be a rooster. Unfortunately I cannot keep a rooster here. I am located in Brownsville TX, in the Rio Grande Valley.

Does anyone know of a place I could rehome him? Or know of any friends/family that could take him by chance?!?!?!

Some pics attached, he's a really well mannered little dude!

Also this coop is temporary! Deluxe coop build starts next week :)

Howdy,
I entered a dozen eggs in the Agricultural division of our Gillespie County Fair this weekend. Ours is the oldest running county fair in TX.

The eggs were laid by my BA girls, Florence and Penny, and we WON First Prize! :celebrate. We got a plaque, a blue ribbon, a certificate and $4 "foldin' money"!

Way back in 2015 I entered Bertha's eggs (my "Little Brown Hen", may she rest in peace) and won first prize that year.
Hi there! Congrats! I'm in Polk County and very curious about how the heck to enter eggs into a fair. Or a chicken for that matter. How do you even start...?

Try posting him on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. Cute little guy!

Thanks, WingIt, our county's Fair has been around 136 years (!) and is a BIG deal for the local farmers/ranchers. It only lasts 4 days; on the Friday the town essentially shuts down from 9am to noon so everyone can watch the parade.

The Gillespie County Fair Association determines all the classes available to enter, sets the rules, and provides the guidelines for entering. Livestock of all types (this is the main event), home-baked goods, agricultural products (everything from hay to sorghum to tomatoes to eggs and beyond), homemade handiwork, even a 'nursing home' category and 'special needs folks' categories are available to enter. Only folks in our county or immediately adjacent counties can enter their "exhibits" in our fair. I think that's how most county fairs in TX operate. Just check with your county's Chamber of Commerce or Fair Associatin or the county AgriLife office and also check with neighboring counties to find out information.

Good Morning!

I'm proud to announce that at 7:48AM, the automatic coop door that I installed yesterday opened on its own and let the chickens out. I had it set to delay 1 hour after the photo sensor detected daylight, but I might reduce that delay to 30 min. The sound of his crow definitely gets muffled a bit when inside of the coop. However, once it's light out, I think being cooped up makes him crow more than when he's out and about. He certainly can't crow while standing at the feeder, stuffing his face. 🤣

Last night, all the girls went in before the door closed, but I still had to manually open/close it to get Aquilo inside. My good boy was perched outside, standing guard over his ladies sleeping inside. 🥰
