My huge number of cockerels has been reduced by 30 or so. I let all the mixes go for free and had some one come get them all.

I have one BA hen who sings the egg song for her sister! Mostly the egg songs are after laying but can be before even getting into the nest box. When a song is in progress I'll often call DH ('devoted husband') back at the house, on his cell phone, and let him listen! Always a hoot!.

We're in SE Texas, have 5 acres, and a small flock of mostly mixed breed chickens. My rooster is a splash marans, and his son is a splash marans cross and my jr roo. I get light tan, brown, green, blue eggs. And I have a hen raising babies right now.

We have 2 horses, 4 dogs and a pair of rabbits that are approaching breeding age.

We also dabble in gardening, canning, and bread making.

Looking forward to retirement so I can spend more time doing those things!

This is Cali and her babies. And, yep, she's as mean as she looks right now!

Allen Ranch has been around recently but I don't think he's stopped by this thread.

Thought I was settling in with 4 eggs on the regular. Girls decided it was time to up the ante to a half dozen.

They must be first year layers. They will lay all through the winter, most likely. Second year layers slow down the next winter.

With the kids gone, I've went from 9 chickens to 3. Two of those three aren't laying at the moment. Pancake is old, guessing 7 years, but need to verify. White Face is molting. Kept one pullet from this year's hatch and the other three went to a friend who is having predator issues. They think they have it under control now.

So from 4 eggs daily to 1 egg most days. Should be good.
