That rain is drowning everything! Got 4 and 1/2 inches last week. I wouldn't be surprised if we got that or more between yesterday and today. Hard to drive in...

Good Morning Texans!

Another hot and muggy day here .. Looking forward to some fall-like weather! I was eye-balling my fall decorations yesterday ..

Saturday is almost here ! I have no idea what I am going to do but am so HAPPY that it is not going to involve rain!!!!

I do have a question, A couple of weeks ago I had to give away 3 of my babies because they were roosters. One of them, Angel, was obviously in charge and rounded everyone up and kept everyone together and made sure everyone went back to the coop at night. He was just the best little guy ever!

Well, now... I have 7 little Silkie-mutts left (4 more roosters, 1 hen, and 2 that are too young for me to tell). They don't seem to have found a new leader... they break off into groups (the orangish ones go together, the greyish ones go together, and the babies stay together). They go to different corners of the yard when I let them out in the morning and seem to stay seperate most of the day. At dusk, they seem in no hurry to get back to the coop and I have been just rounding them up and putting them in it.

No one left seems to be interested in watching over the group like Angel did. Is that normal when they lose their leader? How long does it usually take for one of them to decide to take over? I feel like I have ruined their little family and they are just all confused and I don't know what to do to fix it for them... or maybe it is OK like that?

Any ideas or suggestions, as always, are appreciated!

Does anyone know if there will be a trade-day at the Montgomery County Fair Grounds in October? Saw a question posted on Craigslist today and since I had already been thinking about it thought I would see if anyone knew.

Sorry everyone is having problems with too much rain. We got about 6 inches here but our soil is sand so we never worry about too much rain. The rain was nice but the heat is already back!

Kim...I hope your girls are finding their way....im sure it was difficult to get rid of Angel. I am sure your girls will figure out who is in charge soon. I am the same way, i worry about everything! I never had a rooster other than the neighbors who comes over all the time and i chase him off yelling im the only rooster around here!!...lol

Thank you PunkinPeep. I wouldn't want to miss it because everyone knows I need every chance I can get to look at more animals. LOL

And now I have another question for you all. I got some crossbreed EE chicks at last years trade days and have been collecting their eggs and incubating them. I don't think the two parents are related but the question is... when the chicks I have hatched from these start laying, they will all be brothers and sisters, do you think it would be a good idea to incubate these eggs? I think I got lucky and only have one roo out of the seven that are almost old enough to start laying. Anyway, any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks all.

Alright y'all, got a question. My dog was just sprayed tonight by a skunk. Second time this summer.

It would appear a family of skunks have moved into the area and enjoy rooting around my security light. I've seen bob cats, skunks (there was a full grown one and a baby one tonight), foxes, coyotes, mountain lions, and raccoons under that pole. Skunks aren't a problem except for when they spray my stupid dog. But now, I want them gone. I scared them off tonight by shouting that I'd shoot them, but I don't think shooting them is a good idea. Wouldn't that leave a nasty mess? I'm thinking about the skunks on the side of the road that have been hit by a car in my front yard... Not good...

Anyone have some experience with this?
