Good for you, Kim for taking Ashes in!
That Baytril is great stuff-just gave a round of it to a duck with a sinus infection that looked like she wasn't going to make it and right now, you could never tell she was even sick!
Keep me posted on how she's doing-I know you'll take great care of her(or him?).

If you are feeding crumbles, maybe try switching to pellets to help even more keeping the dust down.

if she have a cold or mucus and mucus had spread a smell from beak to the wings (or armpits ) and sometimes she looks like she is shocking in something like when a person is having a asthma attack
it would be necessary to give her some antibiotics.

if is not time for her to start laying eggs it could be
another thing making her to go and lay in the nest,it could be her illness like is natural in animals to hide when they feel vulnerable to predators or from the hand that feeding them.

She makes this honking noise that sounds alot like a rooster when they first are starting out their crowing. I thought the noise was a bad sign and not a beginning crow because I was so sure she was a girl because I thought she was tryng to lay an egg... Maybe my little Ashes is a boy and she is just going into the hesting boxes to hide because she is not feeling good.

We have laughed all along because she looks like a girl... silkie w/ round poof, no streamers, she has a hen's body, comb is girly but she has the personality of a roo -- very outgoing and bossy (whick is why she is my husband's favorite). She has started that thing hens do when you come from behind where they lower themselves in submission. Maybe I have a transgender chicken!

I don't have a good picture of her head...she is light grey body/blackish head so it is hard to get a good pic! It doesn't matter if she is a roo or hen, I will love her all the same!

I use Equate Sinus it comes two at a time , i just give one pill the hold thing, push it down the throat with my finger , I have never had any problem I give it to my pigeons also , and if they have a cold, eye cold or running nose, coughing , usually one will do it but some time i have had to give two

if all your silkies are brothers and sisters you can tell wich ones are boys and girls.
boys head will be bigger than girls also legs and voices sounds should sound more manly in boys when you hold them you can notice

My little Ashes didn't make it thru the night.

I am so sad and feel bad tha she died alone at the Vet's office - I should have brought her home.
Its weird but I woke up in the middle of the night with chills and shivers, woke my husband up and made him go get me some more covers... I bet that is when Ashes passed.
