I do sell them. We have none for sale at this time. Only 2 are laying and I intend to start some eggs this weekend. I may have some available the first week of March. These eggs are from my show birds. I am not sure I want to sell those until I see what I have, which will mean keeping them until they've grown considerably. I do have a lot of "pet quality" adults that haven't started laying yet. I ought to have a good number for sale around April-June. I will post my availabilty on my BYC page. You can check that or just ask me. I don't ship, but you are close by. Price depends on the parentage of the birds.

I think that all the sand and salt in Texas has gone to support the superbowl. We have had NOTHING here. No one's been in or out of this area until today. We haven't even had any mail since Monday. I have never seen that before! Had the newspaper and trash postponed, but never the mail. (I'm glad they didn't make her try it, though!)

Did any one else lose birds in this freeze? I accidentally locked out two mama hens (dont know how I missed them) when the wind chill was 0 and it was sleeting. I lost one of my mamas, a claret hen, but five of her six foster chicks survived. They warmed up in the house by the heater and are now inside until furthur notice. My little week old bantam chicks survived the night but didn't warm back up. Their mama, a little silkie cross, is now attempting to sit again. I don't want to let her in fear of losing more, so I will be breaking her up tonight.

I also had one of my large combed/waddle roosters get bad frost bite on his face and he lost a waddle. I feel like I'm the only texan who had this problem, because none of my neighbors or surrounding chickeneers lost birds or had to deal with the frost bite consequences. It would help if my waterers hadn't frozen over, I SO did not prepar for this. Having to break the ice off of and get water from my minnow pond.

But, other than that everyone pulled out great and the girls are still giving me a dozen or better eggs a day so production wasn't hindered too bad.

Been a long time sense i have been in the group or on the Back Yard site. So let me reintroduce myself..

My name is Deana and I live in Decatur, Texas. I am North of Fort Worth. I am owned by RIR,silkies, bantams, EE Rooster( we think he is and hoping) and a mixed hen. I am wanting to get me a few EE hens to go with the rooster. I just got the Bantams and Silkies and a week later we got hit with all this snow and ice so I lost 5 of the ones i just got.
My Family and I run a Rescue as Well called Rockin R Rescue. We are also owned by horses, pigs, donkey named nugget we just rescue, mini pony and a full size pony (named cry baby) if that is such a thing. He was brought in as a rescue but keeping him as my own he is one of those in your pocket horses.

I have 3 dd and 1 grandson, and hubby who help me with the farm. Love the world of chickens and have to agree they are so addicting. Already looking for eggs to hatch but have to try and hold back from not hatching any right now with this crazy weather we are having.
My dd calls Texas a Bi-Polor state. do not like the weather just wait a bit and it will change.

Hey everyone, Its been a while for me as well so here goes it. My name is Jennifer and I am a wife to Robert of almost 15 years. He's a very patient and tolerant man. Together we have 3 human children, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 5 roosters, and 9 hens as of now...but I have 18 of my backyard mutts in the incubator with 10 splash silkies and 8 lavender/black cochin bantims on their way via mail to put in the bator....Needless to say, hubby loves me and is building me a 2nd incubator!!! I am in Wichita Falls, the weather here has been crazy the last week. I am lucky that I've not lost anyone!!

Haven't set the eggs yet. Probably today or tomorrow. Got 2 or 3 I think froze, so when the 2 girls in the barn finish what they're doing, I will hand probably set what I have tonight. Are you in Alvarado? Do you have a vet clinic there that does health certificates fr poultry? Vet I know in Aledo suggested that I ask them. He didn't. Everything is in limbo with that whole business here right now. My rabbit vet is going to get certified as soon as possible, but the CE courses aren't even available to him yet.

Oh Oh Deana,
You may not know it yet, but you are hooked!!! I recognize the signs........my first hatch was so exciting, I've had my 'bator running ever since.
I don't NEED more chickens, but hatching is so addictive!
Welcome to the hatching world!

I have 16 eggs (8 salmon faverolles, 6 ameraucanas, 1 wellie X & 1 brown ?) in the bator right now....due for lockdown on Tuesday, hatch on Friday 2/11......& two 4 1/2 week old wellie X in the brooder waiting to go outside.
Eggs, eggs.......I need more, my bator will soon be empty!!
