A neighbor of mine brought me back 2 RIRs from Canton (he purchased 10 more). I'm not impressed with the breeder that he purchased them from. The beaks of the hens had been trimmed. I'm NOT fond of this practice and had I known this in advance I would not have had him get me any.

I prefer "local breeders" that don't trim beaks. They seem to be genuinely intersted in the welfare of the birds and less interested in how many they can keep in tight quarters and sell.

On a brighter note..... it was ONLY 104 today!!!! A cold front must have blown in while I napped!

Anybody else losing trees? Of course, I understand not everyone lives where there are lots of trees, but we live at the edge of the Piney Woods and we are losing Oak trees left and right .. turning brown, shedding bark. It's pretty sad.

With it being so hot AND no rain in such a long time, starting to lose some few Spanish Oaks. Most everything is shriveled up (except of course where the artificial rain has continued to fall).

But this IS Texas and we all know eventually the weather will change! As long as my girls continue to do their thing, life is good! They still have lots of shade to cover them.... for the time being.

This has probably been one of the most challenging spring / summer for planting or growing in a long time. Not sure if you put rings of mulch around your trees or how much water you give each tree, but I do understand what you mean. I'm watering 2 or 3 times a week. The deer haven't gotten the trees I planted because I put fencing around each one. The deer are getting so bold they come right up to the house and have started eating some of the bushes!! Usually, they stay out in the larger area and graze.

I'm just patiently waiting for a tropical storm or a hurricane to bring some relief.

It looks like he pooped a fruit loop!! Good luck on getting him a good home. I just re-homed two it was a chore to make sure he was not eaten.
