AHHHHH!!!!! I am soooooo excited!! I just got my little baby show quality Silkie chicks yesterday that I've been wanting for a long time!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 1 buff, 3 blue and 2 lavender split black from a breeder on Craigslist LOL. Does anyone know a lavender split black is? Do you have any pics??

Well, I gambled and lost. Record heat so I made the decision to let the chickens free range during the day .. rather than roast in the coop. All was well for a week. I was looking forward the the potential break in the temps this week .... too late.

I lost nine today. Found feathers belonging to three .. found another's body .. the rest are just gone.

They were all special ..

Uno (mentally disable SF hen)
Whoopie (over ambitious broody silkie)
Little black and white baby being raised by Whoopie
Barley and Wheat (partridge rocks)
Shiner Blonde (SF cross)
Butterscotch (dominant D'uccle hen)
Bobby (crippled D'uccle hen - BFF to Butterscotch)
EE pullet that I hadn't named yet ..

Will miss you all ....

Hope the others survive being locked up tomorrow .. then I pray the temps drop like they have forcasted..

Sorry to change the subject... Do we by chance have a list of Texas breeders and what they breed? I would love to be able to contact some folks and not have to worry about the extra stress of shipping. I have been looking but haven't seen one. I have been mostly googling but not much luck.

One of the parents was probably a Lavender. It will still look like a regular Black chicken, but if you breed two of them together you have a chance of getting 25% Lavender chicks, %50 Black Split Lavender, and 25% Black with no Lavender gene.
