Cindy T-We live sooo close to Farmersville. We live in the Bland school district but my kids go to Celeste. Bland doesn't have football so we've moved them to Celeste. My oldest is good at football and it is important to him so I do the 15 minute drive 2x a day.

We have been in the area for almost 9 years. We love it! Nice and quiet. Most of the time anyways!

Farmersville has a flea market kind of thing on the weekends. I heard its pretty good. Haven't been yet. We go to Farmersville for pizza and ice cream. Too far to drive to Greenville just for that!

catballou-look around for an auction site. Most of the time pygmys go for $15 or less at the auctions here. We live in the Greenville area. I usually go to the Emory auctions.

Ok, I've mentioned before that I have a group called The Central Texas Pet Chicken Meetup Group ( http://chicken.meetup.com/49 ) that was $5/yr. to join. Well, I've taken off the membership fee so it is now FREE to join. I'm only asking for a suggested DONATION of $5/yr., which could be more, less or none. It would be up to you.

Of course I also have Strictly Pet Chickens at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/strictlypetchickens/ that has always been free and is open to anyone anywhere in the world.

I hope some of you will join the Meetup Group so we can have get-togethers.

Thanks,
Jessica Blanks

I'm from Conroe, TX - 40 miles North of Houston. We have a modest 6 acre homestead in the east end of Conroe, near Porter/New Caney. We have 9 chickens, not really sure what breeds. I'm still new to the whole farming life, but the feed store owner said that they were all brown layers and mixes of Rhode Island Reds, Amercauna and Wyandottes. They are about 4 months old now, can't wait until they start laying.

Thanks for the warm welcome Carla. I noticed that you are in the San Marcos area. I have relatives in Martindale on the San Marcos River - Jack and Johnny Mudd. I know it's a small town and Jack has been a goat farmer for quite sometime. I just thought I'd see if you knew my cousins.

Hi Ya'll
I grew up in Tyler, and Arlington. Moved here with my ex-wife when I was 23. She was originaly from Wi.
After 5 years here we had a daughter. Her mom and I since divorced. Now I have joint placement of my girl, every other week for the whole week. So, there is no way I could move back to Texas, even though the rest of my family is all there. I do kinda like it here, the north woods are full of pine forests, just like East Texas. Winter pretty much sucks though.
I do still consider myself a "Native Texan" and am very proud to be from what I consider the greatest state in the union.
My girl friend thinks I'm a little off for flying a Texas flag, and the Gonzoles flag at my house here in Wi. But, I guess being that she is not from Tejas, I just can't expect her to understand.
