Texas

Mine are in a wire "rabbit" type cage, hanging in the barn where they have no direct sunlight, there is usually a breeze . Everyone looks great today, it is cooler and not nearly as humid

Thanks for the idea for the frozen water bottles. My chicks are 3 wks old now and I will be getting ready to put them in their coop real soon as they are out growing the cage they are in now. I was worried about them getting to hot during the day, but your suggestion is great and I think it would work for my needs.
I think I find so many new ideas on BYC every time I vist. Everyone is so helpful.

Hi,
Here in Beaumont, Texas. We have all kinds of chickens, but I am looking for some Araucana eggs to hatch. We also have quarter horses, two mini horses, barn cats, 4 dogs, a parakeet, two kids, me and my husband. We are both school teachers and are enjoying summer!

Welcome Shelley! I am north of you in Kountze. I am still new, too. I have 6 5-6 wk olds. 2 RIR, 2 BR and 2 Ameracuana. I am curious if you have any silkies. :D

ChickletteSarge, you won't believe this but the neighbors puppy struck again. He got a hen on the neck. I got her just in time to save her. I did tell him that he isn't getting the sultan and her chicks until he does something about the problem. It is really getting to me about how unfeeling he seems to be about this. He acts like it is no big deal. I don't want to call on him because I am not sure that we are suppose to have chickens around here. But come on geez, how hard is it to at least not put the pup in the same pen as the chickens. Says his wife doesn't want it running around the yard. Well, then I told him then you have a choice, chickens or the dog. :(

Have you thought about calling the ASPCA or the local humane society? They may be able to remidie the situation....
Or........ I could go over and chicknap his fowl and leave a ransom note stating my demands....
I like the second option myself... I miss doin the super secret squerrel/99Z(combat NINJA)!!!

I think may have asked before is anyone near Magnolia, Tx. I have a new setup with a fully engineered coop designed by my chickens to keep them happy and me with minimum work.
Anyone who would like to see it is welcome. Took me a 3 weeks to build it. It is home for 17 Chickens of several varieties living in moderate harmony. Many trained to act very polite and friendly with guests.
