I had forgotten that they were born on the same day ! A late happy hatch day then. Love her colour !

All of a sudden it's summer. 30c/ 85f, mosquitoes, scorching wind, all kinds of bugs and thousand of flies. Not my favourite season ! The chickens seem to be doing good for now. All the rain we had this year and the spring before has made the trees and bushes in the chicken yard grow a lot, so they have more shade.

We are raveling in cherries and when the winds blow hard they fall ...straight into the chickens beak, which means a lot of fun chasing. It turns out Gaston loves cherries so much that for the first time ever he forgets he is a food gentleman and doesn't tidbit them to the hens ! Worse, he even tries to get me to sneak him some when no hen is around 🤣. Well, everybody can be bribed, you just need to find the right price !

Lily's scab came off two days ago. I was checking her twice a day and saw in the morning some gunk coming out so we brought her and pulled it out. It was very clean underneath, so we just cleaned with saline. Now a new much smaller scab has formed again but it seems to leak a bit of liquid, so I hope it is still healing normally. She doesn't seem in pain, it isn't swollen, and she is growing back feathers on her belly which she had plucked bare.

Chipie is more broody than ever. Good thing she is so small because yesterday while I was kneeling down to put some crushed egg shells in their bowl she jumped on my face 😱🙄🤣. She is crazy ! Since she is so small it was funny. But she is also following me around our eating table and Théo attacks her really bad - he thinks it's his territory, and he doesn't want broody Chipie there at all.

Hiding on the right of last year's chard grown to seeds, Grochatila is on a surveillance mission watching Piou-piou and Mélisse.

Hey you. Yes you on top of that dumb shoe. Open the coop right now, you hear me ? ☠️☠️☠️

This is good news but a bad picture. On that bare skin, some new feather quills are finally growing ! Hopefully Piou-piou will at last get some feathers back.

This is bad news. After laying five eggs since she began laying again, someone thinks it's time to have another try at babies !

Lily has lost a lot of feathers from Gaston's mating, but they seem to be growing back.

So, now she is sleeping in the crate so she is on a smaller roost. This was my first try with a 5 cm roost and it did not do the job. Yesterday she slept on a round 2.5 cm roost and she was still entranced this morning !

Some pictures from my run yesterday. It's been a long time since I went there because it wasn't possible to cross the streams with all the water !

Fun, sad, and lovely news!
Thanks for sharing Manue.

Today my girls were inside the coop and run whole day because I had appointments whole day. They loved the clipped grass this morning but sure didn’t like it not to be able to wander and scratch in the garden. Except for the 2 broodies of course. Tintin is 10 weeks but stil behaves as a little child.

We missed some excitement today being away from home. There was a pursuit and shooting by the police just around the corner from where I live. No more than 20 meters from our garden. Still don’t know what it was all about.

Glad to hear about lily! I love the Chipie on the shoe photo.

Update on Honey

I am so amazed at this little creature. She is a magic chicken. Honey went blind on April 6th and has been a house chicken since then.

She is almost doing better than ever. She has a great appetite. We have to be constantly making meals for her.😂

She has the house mapped out and she navigates really well inside. We have a food station in a cage and she knows how to go there. She is almost never satisfied with the amount of food there though 🤣.

Honey is truly a food machine... she also has been very sweet and loves her snuggles. She seems to be very very happy.

About three days ago she started molting. Hopefully it will go smoothly for her.

I have one that's having vision issues. She isn't totally blind. Depth perception is way off. She sees the others eating and figures it out. But if I bring the food to just her, she misses the food by a hand span. She has a full crop at night so I guess she's doing okay. One eye is squinty and the other is cloudy. Not sure if Cataracts or something else. She's 5 or 6 yrs. Not tame even when I try to feed her egg yolk by hand.
