Thank you Murray McMurray Hatchery!

How Wonderful! I also have had very good luck with MM in the past. Their customer service is awesome as well.

Edited for a typo...again!

I've been searching high and low for fair reviews on MMH, and I think I just found it.

Everywhere else I looked only provided negative comments, so I concluded that overall those sites were biased, so I went digging some more. The one and only experience I had was eight years ago when I called the toll-free number to tell a guy how I really wanted chickens but I lived in the city and my parents didn't want me to have any. He was very patient with me, and that left me with a good impression of the hatchery.

If I manage to convince my parents, I shall order from MMH, and post my experience here.

No matter which hatchery you check on you're bound to find some negative comments. Usually these are more the result of poor handling by the shipping service, primarily the USPS, and the recipient once the chicks arrive than the hatchery. Most hatcheries are pretty good about making up losses either with new birds or a refund, they can't afford to have a poor rep, especially with people on this forum.

The criticism I'd be concerned about would be deformed birds, mislabel chicks, and/or lack of/poor response to a problem. As far as I can see, this isn't something that happens with most of those that advertise on this forum. I've never had any of these problems with McMurray.

Just to put in my two cents...

When we lived in Missouri, we ordered hundreds, maybe thousands of chicks over the years from Murray McMurray and always had good service. We usually ordered 100 chicks per order to save on small order charges and to give us a fair number of birds from which to pick our breeder birds from. We raised and sold chicks & started birds from the farm and also sold at animal auctions, flea markets & poultry swaps. They had good customer service, were one of the closest to our farm and had a good selection of rare breeds. They seldom had to change the order date and we always got the breeds/varieties we ordered and a few (Usually 4) free chicks per order (Always roosters). Most of the stock we got were of course pet to average breeder quality, but we did get some very nice birds of some of the breeds. I suppose like any hatchery it depends on the breeders that are supplying the eggs. Overall I think they are a very good hatchery, just remember that they are a hatchery, so don't expect show quality.

I have also ordered from several other hatcheries and they are all ok in my opinion, but the bigger hatcheries usually have better customer service and fewer problems.

Sorry for the spelling, my spell-check just went to bed.

And again, THANK YOU Murray McMurray for another successful shipment, now of 12 dear little Indian Runner ducklings! I've been wanting runners for some time now, and finally made the order. I got some Khaki Campbell ducks from MMH a few years ago & they've been doing great. I am looking forward to raising & keeping these new Runners, I got a couple of each color. I do so love a mixed bouquet. They're very active & alert and seem to grow visably each day.
