Thank You

Thanks Katherina, I will change out the news paper in the moring. They are sleeping right now. And maybe I will let them swim tomorrow. We have a LOT planned tomorrow so I may not have time but definately on Monday I will let them swim if I don't get the chance tomorrow.

I did have a question though. They seem to only drink if I pick them up and bring them to the water and if i hold them they will stick their heads in and drink for a while. Which is what leads me to believe they don't drink if i don't bring them. How do I get them to drink on their own? And how do I know if they are getting enough?

They're cute! I think that troublemaker is imprinted on you because you were probably the first thing it saw and first thing that handled him.

Yes. Being that he was so stuck, and I helped get it out and kept checking on it and bringing it water with electrolytes to dip his bill into. The kids and my husband were "afraid" to do anything or go near the bator at that point because they didn't want to hurt it. So I think you might be right.

They will drink soon. They may be still working on their yolk and don't need it that much yet. You will know when they drink, with a mess that looks like a bomb hit the place.

I would still make them drink to make sure they are not getting dehydrated. They are are eating their mush, right? So they are also getting water from there.

I have only seen them eat when I put them to it. But I wasn't so concerned about it because I figured they were still working on the yolk. When I bring them to the water I also bring them to the food so they know where it is. I try to go down stairs every few hours to have them eat and drink but I wasn't sure if they would be getting enough. Plus tomorrow I won't be home most of the day so I worry about it.

OHHH!!!! THose are The Garry Farm babies.....You forgot to tell me Dave and you got 4 on those shipped eggs....Wahoo!!!!! You did great...

Please wait to take swimming until it's warmer and if you do let swim, remember that you must be there 100% of the time to prevent drowning....I would wait at least 2 weeks for a swim.

I'm so happy, please let me know if I can use you as a reference when I next post our crested and non crested pekin duck eggs,,,,,which should be shortly....Also could I borrow one or two pictures....I'm so happy, Tell them Granny Nanny says love and proud of all that fine incubation work....I know it is hard work, especially with ducks!!!!

The duck pen gets a party today at The Garry Farm!

Ducks can swim right away WITH supervision. Just dry them off after they swim for a bit and put them in a warm brooder and they will be fine.
