The tradition was set 2 years ago with the first BYC April Fools Day joke . Last year we raised the prank bar to a whole new level.
This year the entire staff worked together to make this Third Annual BY April Fools Day! It sure was hard keeping up with all the people that kept guessing what was going on. We probably deleted about 300 posts today of people saying things like, "THIS IS AN A-P-R-I-L F00LS DAY JOKE!" Most we tried to send the following PM:

Congrats on figuring out our 3rd annual BYC APRIL FOOLS Prank! We've removed your post and ask that you don't post that you know what's going on to anyone publicly or via PM (to give others a chance to figure it out on their own).

Here is the order of events:
1) At 12:00 AM PST I put the forum in maintenance mode and reset everyone's posts.
2) I set the system to replace:
egg with rooster
chick with hen
April with BYC
Fool with member
3) I posted this thread and made a sticky announcement: "Server Upgrade Good News / Bad News - Post Counts Lost"
4) Took the forum out of maintenance mode and watched as the fun began.
5) Later in the day there were a few other word changes and fun
As of right now all the post counts are correct (including what you posted up to yesterday plus whatever you posted today.
A HUGE thanks to the BYC Moderators for all their help planning, organizing and keeping up with this very busy day! Also, thanks to all the members that kept the secret once they figured it out. If we ever do this again and you figure it out, please make sure to keep your mouth shut.
As far as "takeaways" from this experience:
1) Post counts are not a measure of how important / smart anybody is... just how active they have been on the forum. With that said, when they were gone I know I struggled seeing everyone with very few posts and not knowing who has been around / active on the forum when replying to them.
2) Information is excellent when it is organized and presented properly, but a mess if it isn't. Help us by keeping the off topic / random ramblings posts in the correct section of the forum.
3) Our members are super supportive even when they think we've really messed things up.
