Seriously, make sure your brooder is ready and wait for the fun to start

I was just getting ready to set mine in the hatcher. I candled them first, and out of 7(or 8?) it looks like only two of them are still viable!!! Plus they look to be delayed??? I think my thermometer is not working right. I haven't had any problems with it before, but these eggs look to be about day 14, when they should be at day 18? Crazy thermometer!!! I hope I can figure it out before tomorrow!! I have duck and goose eggs coming that need to go in!!

Ok, I'm kind of brain-dead today

I was thinking along the lines of incubators! But yes, if your eggs are due on turkey day, then you should stop candling. It is best to leave them alone the last 3 days so they are able to position themselves in the egg. If you were using an incubator, you would on day 18 raise the humidity and close the incubator. If they were equipped with time-locks, now would be the time to engage it!!

I honestly do not candle the eggs my hens have, unless they go longer than the recommended 21 days, or if she leaves the nest. Or if she decided to hide the nest, and I don't know how long she has been setting! I (well, my dad actually

) lift the hen up once a day when it gets close to time to hatch, but that's it.
