Thanksgiving Day Hatch, anyone?

Seven Silkie chicks so far from the batch that is day 22 today. One more pipped so we will see when I get home. The second batch is day 21 tomorrow so we will see!

I did my last Candling last night (day 18). I thought I was getting fairly competent at the candling but I don't know now.

I've got 2, maybe 3 eggs that look normal (2/3rd's dark, 1/3rd air cell). But I've also got a couple that I marked down in my notes as bad because they "lit up" with the candler (on day 11). I noticed that these were a little darker now and I thought for sure I saw some kind of movement. So I don't know. These are Welsummer eggs, so they are dark.

Long story short, none of the eggs smell bad, so I decided just to put them ALL in the hatcher JUST IN CASE, lol.

This morning I removed the egg turner and laid them all out in the bator & upped the humidity, so now I'll just wait.

We are going out of town for Thanksgiving (leaving tomorrow afternoon), so when I get home on Friday I hope to be VERY surprised. I don't mind a bit being wrong about my candling abilities if it means more chicks, LOL!!

This was my 1st time EVER doing anything like this so I was excited to candle them. I just keep wondering if anything is going to happen????? This morning I put the eggs up to my ear and did not hear anything... Maybe cause my hens did all the work I feel like I haven't done anything to hatch the eggs--

Congrats to all you who are in "hatching progress."

I've got a "peep" that I can hear, as well as some light scratching. This is always exciting! This is my 4th hatch. Does this ever get old? I highly doubt it!! LOL

SO at feeding time I just tried to listen to the eggs...I "think" #1 had some kinda noise in it.....hard to be 100% sure with all the noise the flock was making though............ Going out to listen again tonight. Now dh is gonna think I am crazy!

It is like I have 6 little presents out in the coop and I can't open them!!!! It'll just be sad if nothing ever hatches

There are many things that must occur in that shell before the chickie comes out. The egg sac has to be absorbed, as well as the veins in the egg. Just be patient. Sometimes it can take 24 hours, or even longer, for the chick to hatch after the first peep.

Just sit and watch...

JUST DON'T OPEN THE HATCHER!!!
