Hi all. just found this thread tonight. I have my first hatch in. Hope they make it. I set a whole gob of duck eggs and none fertile. Also 4 bantam eggs and all 4 look good. I think. 21 days should be Friday. So I go to lockdown........ Tomorrow or Wed? help!!! I did a video a week or so ago of the candling.. was so cool to see the baby moving.

I am SO nervous about this hatch now I am actually loosing sleep. They all looked so good and were moving around when we candled Sunday night. I'm afraid they won't hatch, I'm afriad they wont make it if they do. This is horrible. I'm a wreck over 8 little eggs! Does it get any less nerve racking after your first hatch?................................And yet I am ready to do this all over again as soon as I can! LOL

I hope mine hatch early

Hope like heck nothing goes wrong this time during lock down. I even changed out the bulb just in case and wrapped the bator loosely in towels to help retain heat should something go wrong..... Because dang it all, I want chick and hubby wants the silkies and I have a neighbor who wants to buy a few from us...... once the silkies get old enough I won't need a bator any more.....

What's a pedigree basket. I can imagine, but never heard it called by this name.

Awww I just popped onto the post and everyone has sweet little babies! Your Buckeye is darling and Jen your Broody is a good Mama!

A pedigree basket is a basket made out of rabbit wire with certain dimensions that your place your eggs into that you want to be able to identify when you have a bunch of other eggs in there. Example--2 lines of Delawares or Marans. Then when you take them out of the hatcher you can tag them or toe punch ect so that you can keep lines pure.

I had pictures of it at one time but I think I deleted them. I believe it is 2" high and then as wide and long as you want. I clipped it together with rabbit clips and tool. It has a lid and I tie it shut.

The pedigree basket also keeps the chicks from moving around too much and help them to not develop spraddle leg (I have been told)
