Thanksgiving Turkey Processing

This thread seemed to stop just after Chirstmas... Im bringing it back up. I plan to process one of my Bourbon Red Toms for Easter dinner. This will be my first time processing my own turkey last year my BBWs were processed at a local farm but they dont start processing again til May. So we are sucking it up and gonna do the deed a few days before Easter Sunday. We usually have ham but I need to even out my tom to hen ratio. Anyone else processing for Easter?

Hi,
I didn't think about processing one for Easter and don't have one to process, we are getting 2 to grow for the up coming holidays, DH wants to only get 2 to see how we and they do, we are first timers. So do you get eggs? If so interested in selling them, I'd like to try and hatch a few.

My hens are not laying just yet hopefully they will start this month. I have a wait list going for poults and eggs so I wont have eggs available for a little while if your still interested a liitle later in the spring early summer you can PM me. My birds are very pretty

We processed our last two turkeys in February and I will not be getting anymore until May-ish. I had planned on getting some heritage turkeys this year, but plans have changed and we will once again only raise a few BBW this year. Once we get our poults around May, I will start posting progress reports as we will plan to process them before Thanksgiving again this year :)

We're on our 3rd year of turkeys. We always process our own. We've always had BBW or Bronze, but this year we hope to try the red bourbons. How did they taste? My husband read that the bourbons were supposed to be the best in taste. Smallest turkey we've ever had was 22LBS, and the largest was 44LBS (BBW-tom). :) Its an adventure, that is for sure!!!

Good Morning!

We raised 4 BBW (for the first time) last year and they are now in the freezer. I have 7 Bourbon Red turkey eggs in the incubator. This is my first hatch and I am antsy, excited, nervous, etc. etc. Everything I have read say that the Bourbon Reds are sweethearts and they taste good. I guess time will tell.

Lisa :)

I will be getting my turkeys and chicks at the end of this month - I went ahead and ordered 3 BBW and 2 BBB as a friend of mine swears they taste better than the whites. I still have 3 of the 6 turkeys we processed for last year in my freezer.
I will post pics when we get the poults :)

Will you tell me what kind of turkey this is. I was told they are Broad breasted bronze, but they don't look too bronze to me. I got lucky and have a hen and a tom, we were going to have them for the holidays but the hen is now called Pecker it was thanksgivings and the tom was Christmas, but now tom is thanksgiving and Pecker is just pecker, she pecks at everything, be careful even your fingers. but I figure him now at about 18 pounds and they are just too funny, especially when I call chi chi and they come a running wings out and not so graceful gait, running with the chickens seeing who can get to me the fastest.
