We were backing out of our driveway one day, looked over at our bird feeder in our front apple tree. I like to check and make sure the feeder has some food in it. Right there! .. in a branch over from the feeder was a Cooper's Hawk. He was swiping his best on the branches, you know, like chickens do after eating. Our outside cats Bob and Mo and curly, we lost two wild birds I have not filled the feeders as I felt I was just leading them to slaughter
I'm so glad we don't have to deal with squirrels down in the valley. We have fun spotting them in the canyons. Hope they aren't too bad for you this year .I caught a ground squirrel once eating an egg. Last year I was plagued with them. I think it will be better this year.
Two varieties here. Ground and Grey. Ground are worse for chickens. Greys eat the fruit. If it isn’t the weather and birds the squirrels will finish it off.I'm so glad we don't have to deal with squirrels down in the valley. We have fun spotting them in the canyons. That tree is only a few feet from our driveway, no leaves in the tree, so clear view of us backing up..and then stopping and watching him. He didn't budge.
