Will y'all please tell me I'm not a crazy lady, like my husband thinks.

Every time I hatch eggs I talk to the little eggs like they can hear me. Can the chicks in the eggs hear me or am I crazy?

You're no crazier than the rest of us. Your husband is the one out of sync. ;)

I'm pretty sure chicks can hear AND communicate while in the shell. In the wild, quail chicks all hatch out within 90 minutes of the first egg pipping. I have found that you can speed up zipping with gentle tapping on the lid of the incubator. (Please don't go spending hours doing this, though.) So IMHO, yes, they can hear...at least around hatch time and beyond.

Wait, doesn't everyone do this?

When my most recent babies were hatching on Wednesday, I was up there encouraging them the whole time. "Come on, baby! You're almost there! Give it another push!!" I don't know if they can hear you or not, but they do seem to speed up hatching when there are other chicks peeping around them, so maybe?

Most of us talk to the eggs, hatched chicks and then older hens and roosters!

Guilty! :p

I set our eggs today, 16 total. I work the Saturday before Easter and I need them all hatched by Sunday latest.

All are barnyard mixes. Bresse, Jersey Giant and some others mixed with naked neck cross roos. 3 are from my own flock. I'm pretty sure one is from a nn hen I have and one is for sure from my RIR hen that I took warm from the nest this morning. My roo is a Bresse/Nn mix.

Got most of my eggs in, have a couple more to pick up this morning.

One shipment was in foam, but, the box was basically oriented to where the eggs sat on their side the entire time. One cracked egg in that shipment and many of them with detached air cells.

Another shipment with 18 eggs and not a SINGLE detached air cell, these eggs look fabulous. They were bubble wrapped oriented vertically and double boxed.

My marans eggs who knows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Exciting!
