My Easter Chicks are busting out of shells... I use rabbit cage material to build mini cages so i can tell different breeds of chicks of the same color apart as I take them out of the incubator.

Day 22 on Brinsea Ovation 28 EX, all 9 hatched but one of 10. Had to Help chick #9 (Olive Egger) that got shrink wrap dry this morning which was weird because the humidity reading was @70%. The last egg had internally pipped but couldn’t make it, by the time I helped it was too late, the yolk was not absorbed totally and was lifeless. :(

On Mini II day 20, one hatched when I came home @7pm
This is a perfect example of humidity and shrink wrap. Usually a stuck chick is caused because the goo in the egg kept the chick from zipping. Once there is a pip or a hole in the egg, the egg will dry out regardless of humidity.

It is a development issue that keeps the yolk from completely absorbing and or the yolk is broken and leaks into the egg.

Shipping can cause this too

Good job on getting the chick out!

Not a final count, just an update.
I am up to 15 as of 7am. All 6 of the shipped eggs that made it to lock down hatched, and 9 of the eggs from my flock. There are currently 5 pips and 12 still not showing any action, with noon being the end of their day 21.
I have moved 12 to the brooder:

These 3 hatched since ~2am. They are from my BCM cockerel over my blue favaucana pullet.

What a morning.

Hatch number 27! Went to bed at 1 with it starting to progress from the pip and woke up to a 1:4 inch zip 6.5 hours later. Movement, no progress for an hour while I watched. Pulled it out, sprayed it and started chipping away. Halfway down the shell on his back was an eraser sized spot of membrane dried to his little back. I’m so glad I helped, and what an amazing adrenaline rush that I definitely don’t need, won’t be in a rush to ever do that again.

Started to finish to candle the ones that haven’t hatched. I pulled out six that quit after lockdown, and then BOOM a little bugger is moving around inside of the 7th. Back in you go! Watching and waiting is back on!
