I've always had a soft spot for small birds. Chickens are beautiful and funny to cuddle, but having a canary would absolutely rule!
I see many of them in small, bare cages, and would make an attempt to give the bird a more interesting environment to live in.

That would certainly be cool! I've heard of raising chicks in a more natural environment other than pine shavings...I've yet to try it though. Lol.
I've heard you can teach canaries tricks and stuff, is that true?

I raised my chicks in dry grass clippings, which they seemed to enjoy (it got them more used to free ranging in the garden, anyhow!) but that's about as natural as we got.
A friend of mine has a canary, I'll have to ask. They have a tendency to randomly break into song though, which would be awesome.

I once knew a girl who had a parrot that would mimick their garage door opening, their father driving in, then opening the door and walking down the hall, then saying: "Honey, I"m home!" xD
