I set 25 eggs, but I had to set them before noon because of a funeral today. I got picture, just been too busy today to get it posted...

8 silkies
4 Seramas
13 of my very own barnyard mixes from my barnyard mix roos Prim hatched in November! So excited to see if anything hatches from them!

I am probably too late, but we are hatching eggs. I was able to get into the house and put them in the incubator(its already set up and ready) at noon pacific. We were shearing today, so there hasnt been much time for getting on the list. I put in 23 eggs for the Easter hatch along, quite a few Bantam Cochin, a few each of Silky, Ameraucana and Orpington. Happy Hatch everyone!

I count 143..6 that are 12's, 3 that are 18's, then the rest I counted alone. :D

Evening, Peeps!

First, I set a bit late because I had to work today.
As I was getting ready to set the eggs I had collected, I bumped a carton full of Marans eggs and knocked it over. Seven nice dark eggs lost.

So Sorry. I did this last year on one of the hatch a longs. First eggs from my SPPRs and I dropped every one of them for days! Just couldn't get them in the hatch.

So, I filled in with other barnyard mixed eggs to total 42 set at approximately 3:00pm CST.

My boys' youth group at church were having a retreat this weekend. They started with a 36 hour fast, and built houses out of cardboard to feel what it is like to be homeless. They spent the night in their houses and then went door to door collecting food for the homeless shelter. At 6:00pm, they broke fast with a huge meal at the church. I went to collect sleeping bags, blankets, pillows, and three tired boys. My youngest opened the back of the van and then came around to the front seat where I was waiting. With a level stare he asked, "Momma........why is there a chicken in the back of the car?"

Good news and bad news........

Good news is -- I have a broody to help with the hatch!
Bad news -- She nested in the luggage area in the back of the van.

Guess why I am just now posting my egg picture...............

I love this! That must have really brought on a lot of smiles and laughter

Anyone out there from Australia that knows anyone with fertile quail eggs??? Who can get them in overnight?

I was going to pick up new eggs today but the people we reserved eggs with 2 weeks ago, told us today they didn't have any fertile eggs as we were driving down to go pick them up...

I checked my EE eggs tonight that are in my bator. All seven are clear. Today is day twelve. I have one that might have started to develop, then scratched. So, the incubator has officially been turned off. It was a good training run, if nothing else. However, I checked the eggs under my broody a couple of days ago, and at least three are developing! Wow! I've never seen a live chick inside of an egg before, at least not in person! I could see the eye of one chick and movement from another, then good, thick veining in a third. Found at least two eggs that were clear, though. Possibly three. But still, it's such an amazing feeling to hold an egg in your hand and see the baby developing in there, especially knowing that it's homegrown from your own flock

My broody seems very content. I think she feels happier now that there are chicks forming in the eggs under her. I've been giving her spinach to snack on and telling her what a good mommy she is.

Love my therapy chickens <3
