On the tiara contest submission, I want the Twix bar. (yes, I noticed that it was already consumed)

awwwwww I thought the worst as I was reading that! I am happy too she is ok, heck with the broodiness!

I went to close everyone up and my Black Cochin, Black Betty wouldnt get off the eggs! I picked her up and set her on the ground and I swear she puffed up and growled at me in broody position! I took the eggs from the nest and she ran squawkin to me all upset so I put and egg back and she went right on in there with a harumfffffff and rolled that sucker right back under her and tucked her head in her wing for the night! so I gave the rest back and about 6 more from the layer coop! That should keep her busy! BAD timing though, were was she Sat when I needed her??? LOL
You could always give her some eggs from the bator. I'm hoping for a broody before this hatch is done!

Just candled for the first time. I think that I saw a little bit of veining on one of them but the rest looked clear. And the yolks seemed like they were floating around a lot.

Did I candle them too early? Is the yolk moving around a lot due to high humidity?
Unless your eggs are white, it's still really early to be looking for veining.

Alright, this is not fair. I hatched 11 welsummer chicks between the end of January and mid February. Out of the 11, only 3 are pullets.

Last year was the year of the cockerel, this is supposed to be the year of the pullet! Get the darn memo birds! Sheesh!

I guess the flashlight I was using was just too dim. This is my first time incubating eggs so I am still learning. I used a stronger light and I saw veins and a little embryo in one of the Easter Eggers! I do have a white leghorn egg but that was the only one that was clear. I am going to give it some time. I am just happy that others looked fine.

By the way, Happy Chooks thank you for everything that you are doing with this hatch. You have been very helpful and have answered all the questions I have posted on this thread.

Took my girls on a picnic lunch and hike up the North Shore today (Lake Superior). Cold and windy but beautiful! Ate our sandwiches in the old CCC stone shelter with our mittens on. If it is going to STILL be winter and Spring doesn't look likely anytime soon, I figured we might as well get out and enjoy a little of the winter beauty that we live in. Something to do while waiting for eggs to incubate.

Oh my goodness, no fair is right! What are you going to do with all those little cockerels? Wish I could take one. I do have Welsummers in my hatch a long here, I wonder if I will get what I want...more girls don't ya know.

When you incubate Eggs is it true if you keep it a little on the 98.5 temp you will have more pullets? And the above 99.5 you will get more roos?
