Quote: x2 just mark the air cells and make sure they are on your "watch list" as they may be able to internally pip and not externally pip.......

this is a paste from https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101 it explains what MAY happen

SHIPPED EGGS & Malpositions!
BELOW ARE "SADDLE" SHAPED AIR CELLS

SADDLE SHAPED AIR CELLS are very COMMON with shipped eggs!
Saddle shaped is when one or both sides have a large "dip" in the air cell. A lot of times with saddle shaped cells the chick doesn’t position correct for hatching and their feet can easily get stuck behind their head and “smoosh” the chick so they can’t move, it can also force the yolk sack and everything more north in the shell.... Keep a close eye on these eggs and its VERY important to pencil mark Air cells! Refer to Saddle Shaped Air Cell chick assiting in this article https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching

oh and this is that same egg, check out position

Hey Guys! I am such a numbers person. We did beat last years record. We had 278 participants! Yay US! But only 148 have # of eggs set...so I copied the list of who needs their numbers in. Thought I would post them as a reminder.

Thanks for the great info and tips on this thread now I can read post in order

also on those nipples/waterers. those cup waters look interesting. I wish our farm stores sold them. Oh well, probably get a better price on the Internet anyways and on the plus side I don't have to leave my house to go get 'em.

I forgot to add: I picked up coturnix eggs today to hatch for someone. He came up with 77 eggs. So now I will have a full incubator! They won't be included in the hatch-a-long. I won't be setting them until probably saturday so I can keep a better eye on things and enjoy it. It's my first staggered hatch and already have my other incubator running for hatching.

Anyways, I candled my 20 BO eggs today and it looks like most of them (the ones that I could see) are developing.

But most of them have damaged air cells, so hopefully they will settle and hatch out ok

Good luck on your hatch, hopefully your feisty chick hatches.
Thanks! :) and good luck on your hatch too.

My first time, whoops! I have 35 set in the incubator. Not sure exactly what I'm doing but they all looked like they were developing. I will go into lockdown on Saturday, March 16. Egg-cited!!!!!
