I did it!! I candled!!

I candled my eggs again today!! ALL OF THEM ARE DOING LOVELY!! I have had no duds or "questionable" eggs yet. I got to see some great movement in all the eggs, and even some beak & foot action. Loved it. I really was expecting to be able to take some out days ago! I've been having to hand turn them because there are too many for my automatic turner. I'm lazy... I'd like to use my turner. LOL

Here... enjoy some pictures!

This is one of my Easter Eggers... Lovely blue, nice veining & air sack:

Some nice veining in one of my Barred Rock eggs:

Another Barred Rock egg that I was debating putting in the incubator. It's quite porous... but I'm glad I put it in, the chick is doing just fine so far.

We're on the home stretch... What day are most people going to lockdown? I was thinking I wanted to lock down a day early give the chicks another day to get into position. I'm a bit concerned with my Easter Egger eggs. They're fairly small eggs, and my brahma rooster is a big boy! Hopeing the chicks aren't going to be too big... We'll see.

Sitting on my hands to keep them out of the bator... I candle tomorrow night, since I was behind a little setting at 10am Mar 10th. (Was out of town) Lockdown for me is on Thursday the 28th.

oh YAY!!!!!

Does anyone have candling advice for someone with poor night vision? I have such a hard time seeing anything. I even have trouble seeing photos of Candled eggs unless I go in a dark room, as with Maah's photo of her Easter Egger egg.

I have had this hatch on the brain way to much. I candled last night because I really needed to set some important eggs. Several days ago I also set 10 others. I mean they are crammed in there! So I met up with a buyer a couple of cities away since she was driving a long way and took her 3 plus dozen Marans eggs. Had a great morning. I came home and started out back, cause I had gone out and grabbed the 3 eggs in the pen for her and I have my Lt Sussex hen in with them. She had laid too. I walked past the table and saw an egg dated 3/30, so I tossed it. First I thought is was the Sussex egg, but the date said different, so thought it was one I pulled. No code on it or anything, so that had me stumped. Then I looked in the Sportsman. All of the eggs I set last night were marked 3/30!!! 66 of them! Then I looked at the other 10 and they say 3/30! No codes on any of them!!!!!

I can change the ones from last night, but I can't for the life of me remember when I put the other 10 in. OMG!!! I need this hatch over so I can get back to my regular broadcast!!! What is wrong with me?? I have no idea when those eggs go into lockdown!

I'm too addicted to hatch-a-longs!

I was gone for a few hours this morning and we have a chick!! Now to keep my DH from opening the bator. "you can see them better if you open the lid" he says. To which he got a stern "DON'T OPEN IT" from me. There are 6 more pipped and 3 still rocking and rolling. And our delivery of EE bantams and Mille Fleur D'uccles showed up healthy and peeping this morning too. It's Chick Day at our house.

Don't be too hard on yourself. That Easter Egger photo is fairly dark to begin with. I let the light come through a bit on the top on purpose to show more of the blue coloring and air sack rather than veining & embryo.

Also, it helps to take your eggs into a completely dark room. I shut myself in my pantry so it's pitch black. Use a bright light and even a homemade candler with foil helps if you need it. If you block out all the escaping light it makes it easier to see.
