did u sniff it? your plan sound great!Ok, I have more questions. Can you tell it is my first time hatching?I candled again today since it is day 14 and 2 out of my 4 remaining eggs look good. They have veining and movement! The third egg has very nice veins and movement but a saddle shaped air cell. It is not that bad especially when it is upright. I did a lot of research last night, and I think that if it does not look better by lock down, then I will just hatch it upright. Is that a good idea? The fourth egg is the one that I am really worried about. I am almost completely sure that it has a blood ring. It is not thin like a vein. Instead it looks very blurry. I have never seen the embryo move and now it looks kind of bloody, if that it possible. Also there was not a mass of darkness like the others instead there was just the bloody ring and the embryo. If I leave it in the incubator could it explode? Sorry for all the questions.![]()

Mine looked like that. I let my shipped eggs rest for 48 to 72 hours before setting
Candle day 14 is to determine growth, weigh, pencil mark air cell size and dispose bad eggs.
It will begin to look pretty dark in there! Look for movement.
You should again see some good veining at the lighter spots of the egg.
THIS is a video of a CANDLE at DAY 14!

SHIPPED EGGS & Malpositions!
BELOW ARE "SADDLE" SHAPED AIR CELLS

SADDLE SHAPED AIR CELLS are very COMMON with shipped eggs!Saddle shaped is when one or both sides have a large "dip" in the air cell. A lot of times with saddle shaped cells the chick doesn’t position correct for hatching and their feet can easily get stuck behind their head and “smoosh” the chick so they can’t move, it can also force the yolk sack and everything more north in the shell.... Keep a close eye on these eggs and its VERY important to pencil mark Air cells! Refer to Saddle Shaped Air Cell chick assiting in this article https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching

Okay now the weather is really making me upset. Went to check temp and this popped up
Winter storm warning.....Remains in effect from Sunday afternoon though Monday afternoon.... accumulations of 4 to 8 inches of snow
HELLO it is spring not winter, and I thought if March comes in like a lion it goes out like a lambWhat the heck. The ground hog said early spring, he's not to reliable, now is he. This can't be good, I have a bad feeling it is going to go like this temp. wise![]()
