What a cutie! Don't you just love those 5 toes?

We had one hatched yesterday evening and three pips. But my mean husband won't let me open the incubator to look at them this morning.

(and he's standing over my shoulder watching me type this, too... the big meanie)

Love the card the little flower are one of my favorite have a 1/2 of 55 gallon drum full of them. (gophers eat everything if you don't pot it. Even onions 120 of them to be exact) Can I borrow to end to daughter for Easter she loves chicks and gardening. It is beautiful

Yes, go ahead! Have a Blessed Day. :)

Well my hatch is done - 35 chicks hatched from the 68 I set. I had 6 that had pipped but died in shell (several pipped at the wrong end and the others, I think were being bounced around too much by the chicks having recess). The rest were early quitters and those that just didn't make it through lockdown.

9 - Japanese Bantams
9 - Icelandics (lots of whites)
4 - GLP
3 - Spitzhauben mixes
6 - Tolbunt Polish mixes
3 - Welsummers
1 - EE

Happy Easter Everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed day with family, friends, pets and loved ones!!
I do have a question for anyone that might be on who can help:). I have a chick hatching from a smaller round shaped egg who's air cell was on the side. Anyway I read about how to place it ect so it could hatch and I did as I read but now it is hatching on the opposite side (not where the air cell is) and there is a few spots of blood where it has pipped:( it is still poking its beak under the membrane but there are some blood spots inside the membrane.... So my question since it is still alive and working on itself do I leave it alone and at what point do I assist and how?!!??

Thanks so much in advance!! I would really like to have this little one make it:) my fingers are crossed!!!
Have a great day!!

Happy Easter! Hope ya'll have a blessed day!

We still only have 2 chicks and still have 4 eggs in the incubator. Is a bad odor normal with hatching? This is the first hatch we've been successful with. Also, how long should we wait before re-candling or doing the float test? We're now on day 22 and I know that's not too bad, but the others hatched Friday.
Bad odor is not normal..Just do a sniff test and remove any egg that smells...if it does not smell..tap the shell as you hold it to your ear. ..even if you do not hear anything..if it does not smell return it to the incubator.
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE. 8 HATCHED . 2 MORE PIPPED and 20 STILL DECIDING WHAT TO DO.
I want to get a dozen of these eggs for my next hatch.
I would like a dozen also
We had one hatched yesterday evening and three pips. But my mean husband won't let me open the incubator to look at them this morning.

Not mean..smart man...every time you open the incubator you delay hatch a few more hours.

Congrats to those who have a good hatch and have cute little fluffies for Easter!

I'm sorry for all those whose hatches didn't go so well. (Been there and am sure I will again) Always new hope for the next hatch!

If you read a bit about hatching Silkies..it seems they like the first 48 hours a bit warmer than normal. It has to do with the exchange of carbons and other things. I think they say to put them on 102. Leave the plugs in, (turn the fan off) and make it have less air flow. Than turn them down to 99.5. and make your incubator exchange air.(turn the fan on) I of course read tons and tons of information after I bought my second set of Silkie eggs and did not do so well hatching. I am hoping the additional information I have read really helps me if I try to hatch more Silkies.
I usually have a pretty good hatch..but those Silkie eggs are so difficult. I am a bit cautious to try again.

That is interesting information. I have hatched silkies twice and did not do anything special like that. They hatched just fine.

Try again but try to get ones from someone local with a healthy flock. I would not the 102 thing.
