By then I'm sure there were way more than 13. Maybe 13 in northern Europe.

Haahaa-- I think the world was rather small in the late 1800's. Most people didn't travel beyond their own village even then.

He wouldn't know about the south American breeds, all the asiatic breeds; and Icelantics. We have so many wonderful choices--now to decide which one(s)!!!

Ohhhh, you will love ducks!! A little messy with the water, but that can be managed. I use childrens kiddie pools and have caught the adults in horse troughs and 2 gallon waterers!!! We love our ducks. Eggs make rich ice cream!! ANd other desserts. yummy!!!!

The first time I ever raised meat birds (30 years ago), I took a chicken to the "processing" area and talked to it all the way from the pen. I got there and just couldn't do it. I walked back to the pen, tossed it back in and grabbed another (could have been the same bird for all I know, they were all white cornish X), didn't talk to the bird and just got down to business!

I looked at your ducks and I Showed my dad the photos of how cute they were then I said, why can't we get ducks? Wont you at leat consider it? And he said yes!!
I have been begging him for ducks for I don't know how long.

You will love them !! Mine fly around and het the hens going too!! THey are happy little creatures that wiggle their tails like a favorite dog!! I hatched out a few muscovy last year. Hardy creatures-- I have not lost a duck yet.
