That is so cool, Cayuse! I am impressed! I have to ask, what is a "creeper or jumper" and what is a "sooty"!
I was wondering the same thing.

Guess what came in the mail today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A great reward for all that hard work internet searching......
Congrats! You will love it. I have 6 welsummer eggs going into lockdown tomorrow in mine. (only 1 girl laying right now)

what are Icelandics? Not yet another chicken I will want right?

LOL I just google imaged icelandics and this is what I got, LOL I dont think their eggs will fit in my bator though : (
They are a land race of chickens from Iceland. They can be a variety of colors/combs, but all lay white eggs. They were thought to be extinct, but found on an uninhabited island where they survived on their own for 30 years. Also called "pile chickens" for going through the dung for insects. They are small and compact, but excellent layers and great broodies. They are genetically different than all modern chickens today.

Here is an article on them:

Also, heed my signature line - they are escape artists. As proven by this girl brooding 8 feet up at the roof line in a shavings bag. She hatched her chicks there, then I moved her to safer quarters. She was only 7 months old when she raised this clutch.

So I went out to feed and water the chickens today and this is what I found....

My little EE hen, Runaway, decided there HAD to be more feed in the bin so she climbed in... Took forever to get her out but she's ok. Silly girl.

Quote: My cuckoo maran eggs that I hatched ( shipped eggs)were much larger than my black coppers. BUt the black coppers had a much darker egg. ((sigh)) Rare to have both.

But always fun to see what colors the girls lay when they are old enough!! I have OE, EE, and plan to put a couple OE back with a black copper for very dark olives.

Mine just unscrew it from the bottom and all the feed falls on the floor.

Fiance? Spill it, when did that happen? Pic of the ring, please!
I cant set for hatching on easter but I will be setting easter Saturday - the best I can do.
We will be setting about that time for the Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey (and turkey tutors) Hatch-a-Long. ChooksChick ran it last year and it was a blast! You should join us then!

Oh how I want turkeys. I know if I get some they would 'randomly' disappear into thin air one day and my dad would be serving a ginormous 'chicken' the next *sigh*

My first turkeys are all pets--the ones after that are dinner. I can't eat my pets, so I hear you.

Quote: I will join the turkey hatch this year! Was going to last year, but something came up.
((clapping))

I wish my turkey would lay me some eggs. She was trying to sit on a nest in December, I thought she was dead, but no sitting on eggs that had probably froze then thawed and froze and thawed, I think you get the picture. Are turkey eggs good to eat?
Oh yes!! I use them like chicken eggs, but feel guilty for not hatching it! ((sigh)) Maybe your hen will try again when the weather is warmer!!

If our shipped eggs come in around the right time, I'll join in. It'll be our first time incubating!
It is loads of fun!! ANd a VERY long hatch athon, wait, wait ,wait . . . gives us lots of time to talk!!

Thank you both! I PMed Kelar (or catdance silkies) first which somebody recommended, I dont want to PM a bunch of people at once then have to say I found somebody else, or something like that.
hmm.png
I did that once and saying no back to everybody but one was so embarrassing!
You could get hatching eggs form everyone that says yes...

haahaaa-- I thought the same thing!!!!!! SAY "yes" and thank you to all!! Who know which will hatch, and you will have a great foundation to work from.

Quote: The first time I ever raised meat birds (30 years ago), I took a chicken to the "processing" area and talked to it all the way from the pen. I got there and just couldn't do it. I walked back to the pen, tossed it back in and grabbed another (could have been the same bird for all I know, they were all white cornish X), didn't talk to the bird and just got down to business!
